1) A compass, so you won’t lose your way.

2) Portable soup, so that way you can have something hot to eat.

3) Writing paper, so you could write and document your discoveries.

4) Coats, because you need to stay warm during cold weather.

5) Flannel shirts, again, so you can be warm.

6) Knives, so you can cut up anny food or animals that you want to cook.

7) Guns, so you can shoot the animals or people who try to hurt you.

8) Medicine, so you can treat the sick.

9) Handsaws, so you can cut trees and maybe make a small shelter/

10) A map, so you can be sure you’re going (somewhat) the right way.

She speaks two Native American languages as well, and since she is a woman who had a kid, this kind of symbolizes that she is under good care and the people that are taking care of her are peaceful people. Pinkfairies are a type of flower that grew in the American West, but now grows all over the country in forests. Scientifically called the Clarkia Puchella, this pinkish-purple hued flower was discovered by Clark, and named after him as well. I cannot find if this plant is edible or not, and I do not wish to find out in case it isn’t edible. This flower was probably surprising, since the west is a bit hot, yet, there are flowers growing there! This could be picked and given as a gift to the Native American tribes, which I’m sure would have made them happy.

Mainly, they eat desert shrubs (NOT CACTUSES!) and forbs, which are types of weeds. I personally think that this must have surprised Lewis and Clark, I mean, a deer living in a dry desert-like area?! Not to mention, a deer feeding off of weeds and such found in the desert does seem somewhat strange, especially to someone who has never seen a mule deer prior. When Lewis and Clark discovered the Shoshone, the Shoshone were in awe, as these people were the first white men they had ever seen. Lewis gave them gifts and used sign language to communicate. The Shoshone were happy, but somewhat suspicious of them. They were afraid of Lewis and Clark guiding them to a trap of sorts.
