A list of invasive species in Greece can be found here
Summary
Because of pet traid many species have conquered Greece. They thrive leading native species to extinction.
Most of these animals arrive in Greece as babies ,in order to be sold as pets. When they reach adulthood, they are released in nature where they adapt and reproduct. Not only do they change the environment, so native species have to adapt or to extinct, but also they usually prey on native species.

The International Union for Conservation of Nature, (IUCN) describes invasive species as “animals, plants or other organisms introduced by man into places out of their natural range of distribution, where they become established and disperse, generating a negative impact on the local ecosystem and species.” Invasive species can negatively impact human health, the economy (i.e. tourism, agriculture), and native ecosystems. These impacts may disrupt the ecosystem processes, introduce diseases to humans or flora and fauna, and reduce biodiversity.

Invasive species are organisms that have been transported from their native environment to a new environment. Depending upon the transportation distance, these species may be removed from competitive factors (i.e. pathogens, pests, predators) that limit their abilities to disrupt native and human altered ecosystems.

Red-eared slider (Trachemys scripta elegans)

Psittacula krameri
The rose-ringed parakeet, Psittacula krameri, is native to central Africa and Asia and is a colourful, distinctive-looking bird. It is known as one of the most successful avian invaders in the world, with established populations in over 35 countries outside its native range. P. krameri has been shown to have adverse impacts on native bird species and carry diseases. It is thought that its reproductive success, establishment and range expansion in non-native areas is related to climate similarities of non-native areas to that of its native range.
Carassius auratus
The passage of cyanobacteria through the goldfish intestine stimulates cyanobacterial growth, which may result in algal blooms occurring. The bottom-sucking feeding methods of goldfish can also contribute towards algal blooms by re-suspending nutrients, which makes them available to algae . Goldfish have also been known to prey upon the eggs, larvae and adult of native fishes , as well as increasing water turbidity and depleting aquatic vegetation .
Cyprinus carpio
Carp are known to damage aquatic macrophytes. Moreover, by stirring up river substrate and reducing aquatic vegetation carp can makes waterways unattractive and can render the water unsuitable for swimming or for drinking by livestock .
