Leaders of the United Nation, fellow youth leaders, ladies and gentlemen, I am honored to join you all here today at [event]. It is truly a privilege to be invited as a guest speaker for today's event, and I thank [whoever invited me] for granting me this chance.

As you may have known, our topic today is global hunger, a topic not many people are aware of, or perhaps they are, but often forget about or purposefully ignore.

Contrary to some beliefs, global hunger is not a new issue, nor is it a problem that only exists in third world countries. In fact, this has been an on-going issue for decades after decades, generations after generations, and, as its name implies, it is a significant worldwide problem, which is also why zero hunger is our second sustainable development goal.

Famine and malnutrition target the most vulnerable members of our society. The poor and the working class everywhere in the world are those who are most likely to suffer from the lack of food and nutrition, and they, who are the backbones of our society, must be protected if we wish to achieve any of our great goals and aim for a better world for everyone.

To do that, we have to find a more sustainable method of farming, producing and consuming food, because if food production is increasing yet we still have starving individuals in the world, then there is something wrong with the way we do things, and wronged ways must be righted.

We have to look into the flaws of our systems, of our society to understand what exactly is preventing our people from the rightful access of food, and we have to find ways to tackle those problems, so that not a single member of our communities have to suffer the unfair treatment of food insecurity.

We have to improve living conditions, lower the prices of nutritious products that are essential for daily needs, and raise the payment for the working class. We shall ensure that no one has to suffer for their most basic needs, that no one has to go to sleep with an empty stomach, only to do the very same thing the day after, as well as the day after that.
And to do this, we need the cooperation of everyone -- of world leaders, of members of the authorities, of people from the upper and middle and lower classes, of both privileged individuals and the less fortunate ones, of you and of me.

Because a world where no one is left behind is the world where everyone is well and happy and healthy, and that is the world that we, the United Nations, are aiming towards to.

Ladies and gentlemen, if I may ask, if it were you who has to go days after days with barely anything to eat; if it were you who has to work a hundred shifts a week to pay for your accommodation bills, taxes, and other things, only to have a little amount of cash left for food; if it were you who has to tell your kids, "oh, we have nothing to eat today", "just hold on for a little longer" or "this is all we have for today"; what would you have wished you and other people have done to avoid all of this? What would you have wished to do and for other people to do to take you and others like you out of this situation? The answer is yours.

Ladies and gentlemen, today we have once again addressed our food and consumption problem, and until it no longer exists and no brothers and sisters and siblings of ours have to suffer under famine, I hope that I, and you, and we, shall not stop talking about it.

Thank you for listening.

Presentation:
https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/15YuhN_g4Vn5RxBKHF7KN2TXf6TJT9sAEXYtREW1jEE8/edit?usp=sharing

Do you ever think about the millions of families and kids that suffer from not being able to have food? We all should be very grateful if we have a family to provide food for us because not everyone does. Hunger is a term that has three meanings:
•The uneasy or painful sensation caused by the want of food; craving appetite. Also, the exhausted condition caused by food temptation
•The want of scarcity of food in a country.
•A strong desire or craving.
People who face hunger as their main obstacle in life also have desires. Some of them wanted to be doctors, some of them wanted to be teachers, but all of them dreamt of enough food to provide for their own families. In Vietnam, we have an old saying: "Only with food can one achieve enlightenment." We wonder how this problem always appears in meetings of many countries and organizations, and nothing seems to be improving after those sessions. Is it because their ego is too big that they won't give out any help by all means, or is it just their consents are useless?

There is always a gap between promises, plans, and real-life action. The promises organizations and nations made sounded too beautiful, so promising, but after all, "words are but wind". Only a tiny percent of those words are proven by actions, therefore, they couldn't make too much of an impact. Elon Musk, an entrepreneur, an inventor, Tesla's CEO, once tweeted that he can easily use $6billion from selling Tesla's stock to END world hunger, but only when organizations thread him the way. The real message that we can witness here is that he requires integrity to make it happen. Why did he have to slide in that message through his tweet? It might sound harsh but it is true in the reality of dealing with global hunger. Lies and embezzlement are always stains that even the most dedicated organizations couldn't handle. Aren't we supposed to help each other out? We are all humans, living on the same Earth, breathing the same air. Why can some have much more when some have too little. Aren't we racing towards equal rights? Everyone has the right to speak up when they are struggling with problems that directly affect their lives, and they already did. Where are we? If only one man dares to defeat the issue by his own hands, why can't we? All of us can work together perfectly, and by the power of unity and willingness, the problem would perish in no time.

Solving the problem is not just by informing others and hoping that they put themselves in the process, but by improving the solutions that have been existing since day one. More citizens in developing countries and rural areas need to learn to grow their crops, raise their animals, and improve their lifestyles through programs and projects. These products can be linked directly to food suppliers, which increases their assets, more chances to afford daily meals, and financial support. Aid packages and funds need to be delivered thoroughly with a wide span of coverage in each region so no one will be left behind. Finally, a huge global issue like this can be solved with the helping hands of each of us; it doesn't matter how much you put in; every care is a life saved.

Ladies and gentlemen, I am very honoured to be here today, before all of you, as a speaker, a delegate that comes from Vietnam, a country that has experienced at least five issues that are included in United Nations sustainable development goals: poverty, hunger, citizens’ health and well-being, low education quality and gender inequality. All these things, my country has faced for a century, during the war in the past. More than anyone, we understand clearly the consequences they have on people's living and economy until today.

As we all know, today’s conference topic is hunger. My country came through this problem in 1945, with approximately 2 million people had died. I know how severe it was, what factors contributed to it, and how my country has overcome one of the most extreme hunger of history.

Global hunger is not a new concern towards us. However, I still want to define hunger again briefly. Hunger is an uncomfortable or painful physical sensation caused by insufficient consumption of dietary energy, or to be simple; it is basically we do not have enough food to eat, to provide the required nutrients, or literally do not have anything to eat.

There is a fact that, around the world, more than enough food is produced to feed the global population. However, 9,9% of people on the Earth, or 811 million citizens, are going to bed with an empty stomach every day. 690 million people globally are undernourished. 21,3% of children under the age of five have to face several malnutrition consequences. So, what are the reasons behind all of these awful statistics?

Hunger is strongly interconnected with poverty, and it involves interactions among an array of social, political, demographic, and societal factors. People living in poverty frequently face household food insecurity, use inappropriate care practices, and live in unsafe environments with low access to quality water, sanitation, and hygiene - all of which contribute to hunger.

Moreover, conflict is also a key driver of severe food crises. Hunger and undernutrition are much worse when conflicts are prolonged, and institutions are weak. The number of conflicts is on the rise, some worsened by climate-related shocks.

Weather-related events, in part associated with climate change, have also impacted food availability in many countries and thus contributed to the rise of food insecurity. Economic downturns in countries dependent on oil and other primary-commodity export revenues have also affected food availability and decreased people’s ability to access food, especially in the COVID-19 situation.

We all have to acknowledge that our farming methods at this moment are not optimal, and the adaptability with unpredictable climate conditions is still low. Climate change worsens global hunger, with more frequent and longer-lasting periods of extreme temperatures, flood events, and dry spells. Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) is a broad term that encompasses a number of practices that allow farmers to adapt and become more resilient to a less-predictable climate. These practices include diversifying crop varieties, conservation agriculture practices, and low-water sack gardens.

Food waste is also a matter of concern that we should focus on to tackle completely global hunger. Currently, one-third of all food produced (over 1.3 billion tons) is wasted. Producing this wasted food also wastes other natural resources —requiring an amount of water equal to the annual flow of Russia’s Volga River and creating 3.3 billion tons of greenhouse gases.

Ending food waste would be a radical shift, but it’s one that you can be a part of by simply reducing your own food waste. It’s especially important in countries like the United States (which contribute more to climate change but feel the effects less than more vulnerable countries) to take these steps towards climate justice. You can also ask your representatives to commit to reducing food waste on a policy level.

Zero hunger has never been an easy obstacle; we have struggled with them for decades by decades. And today, once again, I would like to remind any authorities, governments, politicians, and organisations, who are inattentive, absent-mindedly, negligent about the severity of hunger. Together, we should be united more and more to meet this organisation’s goal, which is zero hunger in 2030, we have to reach the goal as soon as possible, and it is even better to accomplish it before the time that we aim. Children are dying; people are starving; we cannot delay anymore, even just an hour.
