This represents a very particular shock in the sense that these were cities with a vast majority of Muslim population, which was then replaced by Christian residents.The Reconquista (or "reconquest") was a period of Spanish history which lasted for 770 years, beginning with the Battle of Covadonga, which marked the first victory by Christian armed forces since the Islamic conquest of Iberia in 710 A.D.</sup></em></div>]]></description>

Western Europeans brought back many goods, such as lemons, apricots, sugar, silk and cotton and spices used in cooking. Not all the Crusaders went home after fighting the Muslims.After four Crusades, the Muslims won control of the Holy Lands. However, the crusades resulted in increased trade in Europe and the development of towns.</sup></em></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><em><sup>Under the supreme council of the Spanish Inquisition were 14 local tribunals in Spain and several in the colonies; the tribunals in Mexico and Peru were particularly harsh. The Spanish Inquisition spread into Sicily in 1517, but efforts to set it up in Naples and Milan failed.The Spanish Inquisition was a judicial institution that lasted between 1478 and 1834. Its ostensible purpose was to combat heresy in Spain, but, in practice, it resulted in consolidating power in the monarchy of the newly unified Spanish kingdom. Its brutal methods led to widespread death and suffering.</sup></em></div>]]></description>

After the victory in Normandy, Paris was liberated in August 1944 as the Allies pushed slowly eastward and the Soviet Union moved toward Berlin as well.D-Day marked the turn of the tide for the control maintained by Nazi Germany; less than a year after the invasion, the Allies formally accepted Nazi Germany's surrender. D-Day was a day that cost many lives on all sides of the conflict, changing not only the future of countries, but of families as well.</sup></em></div>]]></description>
