This stuck out to me because the reality of living as a minority is telling your children and your grandchildren they’re worth something and they need to play it safe because this world is not kind to minorities especially black people. I’ve talked about this in a few other classes where we discussed the harsh reality of telling your kids how to play it safe as a black person like don’t walk with your hood up, don’t hide your hands, etc. The second thing was how Germany couldn’t even think about the death penalty based on their history. I think that’s so powerful because in America we also have a relatively dark history yet we are still killing human beings for crimes. Racism and oppression, segregation and injustice still exist in our country.
