         <description><![CDATA[<div>Occurred in Alaska on August 24th, 1989<br><br>Point-Source<br><br>The ship hit Bligh Reef because of a drunk ship conductor<br><br>The government and other groups ended up spending $31 billion on cleanup, while also killing tons of wildlife around the area. The Pollution Act was passed as a result. There were also otters, whales, and eagles that were killed too. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>This occurred at Camp Lejeune from 1953 to 1987 where soldiers were drinking really bad water. <br><br>Non-Point Source<br><br>This was caused by bad water bases. Industrial solvents were put into the water, as well as many chemicals. <br><br>This caused cancer in many individuals, and made other ones very sick. 850 people were affected over time. Cleaned by an act of Congress. </div>]]></description>

This water was extremely toxic with a lot of chemicals. <br><br>There were no real long term effects as of now as the water is mostly clean, but it did affect the drinking supply of many individuals at the time. </div>]]></description>

Carcinogens were highly concentrated in these chemicals, causing major damage to the individuals who drank the water. <br><br>The Hooker Company was at fault, and there was a total of $400 million spent to clean up the damage. Affected many people into their long term years. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The location was Hinckley, California from 1962 to 1966. <br><br>Non-Point Source<br><br>370 million gallons of toxic water was dumped into the pond into this area. It was chemicals. <br><br>Groundwater around the area got significantly affected, and people had no running water for a certain amount of time period. They couldn't drink from that water, and a total of $750 million to clean up. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Northeast Ohio in 1969<br><br>Point Source<br><br>An oil slack caught on fire. This was a problem because the oil spread and caused an even larger amount of fire along the river. <br><br>The fires burned down a bridge and caused significant land/ecological damage to the immediate area. Another Act was used to clean it, and there are no long-term effects. </div>]]></description>

The chemical is called cryptospordium-parvium. <br><br>400,000 people were affected and it even killed 104. It was cleaned by a Clearwater group. 180,000 cubic yards was cleaned by those efforts, the rest is unknown. <br><br></div>]]></description>

This contaminated people's drinking water and mixed the coal ash with the water. <br><br>The effect of this was that it poisoned wells and costed $3 million. There were long-term effects because of poisoning and people were affected. </div>]]></description>
