         <description><![CDATA[<div>Pulmonary ventilation consists of gas flow into the lungs (inspiration and gas flow out of the lungs (expiration).&nbsp;<br><br>Depending on the volume change in the thoracic cavity, there is a pressure change that leads to a flow of gases to equalize pressure.&nbsp;<br><br>The relationship between the volume and pressure is Boyle's Law. Gases will fill always fill the container they are in.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Oxygen diffuses out of the lungs while Carbon Dioxide diffuses into the lungs.<br><br>Oxygen in carried into the blood by dissolving in plasma or they are bound to hemoglobin in the red blood cell.&nbsp;<br><br>Carbon Dioxide is carried into the blood by dissolving in plasma, binding to the globin of the hemoglobin (carbaminohemoglobin), or they are transported as bicarbonate ions in plasma.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Hyperpnea: the increase of ventilation in response to metabolic needs.&nbsp;<br>EX: When exercising here is an increase in ventilation and when it stops, there is a decline in the flow of Carbon Dioxide.<br><br>Acute Mountain Sickness: Quick travel to altitudes higher than 8,000 feet will cause symptoms of headaches, shortness of breath, nausea, and dizziness. This is due to the &nbsp;change in atmospheric pressure, as Oxygen levels lower. </div>]]></description>

Lacking the ability to push air out of the lungs.&nbsp;<br><br>Emphysema: enlargement of the alveoli, causing a lack in elasticity.<br><br>Chronic Bronchitis: Excessive mucous caused by inhaled irritants. This results in a blocked airway.&nbsp;<br><br>Asthma: Inflammation of the airways due to a release of interleukins, IgE, and inflammatory cells, causing bronchospasms.<br><br>Tuberculosis: An infectious disease caused by a presence of the bacteria Mycobacterium tuberculosis.&nbsp;<br><br>Lung Cancer: Mainly caused by smoking or second-hand smoke. The three most common types of lung cancer are adenocarcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and small cell carcinoma.</div>]]></description>
