As Daenerys is sitting within the ashes of the pyre with the three new born dragons on her and her khalasaar around her, the reader knows that in book two of the series Daenerys will be an even more important character. Though many sad things did happen towards the end of the novel and numerous loved characters met their demise, the novel was amazing. The somberness and war that was the majority of the last half of the novel was imperative for the unfolding of the ending where it is foreshadowing Daenerys obtaining Westeros. As a reader this ending of the novel makes me look forward to the second book of the series greatly. This war takes up a large portion of the novel and causes many deaths on both sides.  When Eddard learns the truth about the king and queen's heir he becomes accused of treason and is taken as a hostage by the new king. This then sparks a series of events that lead to a massive war between the North and South. This war last for a long time and is still technically going on at the end of the novel. A major internal conflict would be right before the war when Ned had learned of the queen's deceit and was unsure how to tell Robert. He struggled with his honor and knowing it was the right thing to do and the safety of his family and comrades when the wrath of the queen and the Lannisters would be exposed. In the beginning of the novel he was just a young boy who was almost a man and still fought in the practice yard with a wooden sword. Though he was the oldest of Ned's children he was still young and naive. Then when Robert asked Ned to become the Hand of the King and Ned had to go live in the South with his king, Rob was forced to become the master of the household. He saw after his people and took care of all household matters, even when he was alone there with no mother or father for guidance. As the war begins to start Robb calls his father's, and now his, banner-men to their castle and recruits his army for the war. He marches as the battle commander to where his mother is. He is no longer the young boy, but he is now a man grown. He has become much wiser and even learns to listen and heed all of the banner-men's opinions before taking action.
