For both of them, while their medical symptoms were not incredibly concerning, the effects of being socially isolated caused us to feel fatigued and melancholic. In a sense, Covid-19 left us “stranded in the middle of the ocean.” Not being able to leave our rooms or see any friends in-person ended up being the most painful part of contracting the virus.

Our faith urges us to observe these injustices from the perspectives of crucified people in our community. The Cross is the center of reality and the center of history. It is from the foot of the Cross that the most important questions arise: Who are the crucified people of today because of the pandemic? What do they suffer and why? How can we bring them down from their Cross? How can we help them rise again? At the foot of these Crosses, we can see the light and help the marginalized of our community rise up from the consequences of this pandemic. Thus, the Catholic faith calls us to impart change by getting involved with our local community and working compassionately for those most affected by Covid-19.
