O'Shields - Algebraic Reasoning
Loved Mrs. Collins' Soh Cah Toa lesson (I used to have fun teaching that back in my Geometry days!) All of her students were fully engaged in the lesson, participating in the class discussion, and taking notes while watching Mrs. Collins work problems using the document camera. I have kicked around the idea of using the document camera myself, and am now even more convinced that I should try it. I think it would work very well with graphing systems of linear inequalities, and would help to model good graphing techniques for creating nice, neat graphs.

Dalton Myers - Academic English II
I liked the use of the document cam in the math class. The teacher was able to model while teaching. It seemed to students that she was just walking them through things, but by the end of the lesson, they had a full booklet of notes and examples, and they knew how to use the formulas. I could use it in my classroom by breaking down parts of an essay the same way, and writing an essay within one class period with them so that it seems more accessible and less time consuming to do.

Lauren Rodgers Family & Consumer Science- I enjoyed observing Mr. Campbells US History students. They were creating bubble maps for various events in history, but what I really enjoyed observing was his classroom management strategies. He uses a group point system to offer various incentives for each 6 weeks. His learners were engaged and on task. It’s certainly a system that I could take and tweak to fit my own classes. Sometimes it is hard to find ways to motivate reluctant learners, but he has developed an effective system for his students.

I saw lots of student engagement with the classes' activities, and how the class environment minimized the stress on the students, while not minimizing the importance of the work. Today's shark tank is one example where students had to of done their research and present their work. However, instead of a one time all or nothing presentation in front of class and teacher with all eyes on you the students were presenting their work at the same time with their peers so each present delt with a smaller audience which help to counter stage fright, also every presenter now has to present several times allowing them to become more comfortable with their presentations and if a mistake/problem occurs in one presentation they will have others to work it out. For the classes that where more direct teaching I saw the students actively engages as the teacher consistently checked for understanding and altered pace to meet the needs of the class, there was also small group discussions incorporated into the direct teaching.

I really enjoyed the classrooms I saw today. The Shark Tank seemed like a great spin on a jigsaw activity where every student had to become an expert in their topic and then share it with their classmates. The Chemistry and Math classes had such positive environment vibes. It was great to see spaces where students were not afraid of trying, even if they got confused or stuck.

The structure of the research/ presentation/ evaluation of the assignment was effective and engaging. I would love to encourage and help the teachers I collaborate with on research units to plan a lesson in this style.

The learning walks today was phenomenal-Mrs. Vu classroom atmosphere was so positive. The students were engaged in their learning and asked questions as she explained how to solve for the variable. I loved how she gave them the right amount of wait time to do an equation on their own. She then asked them to look at their neighbors answer before she told them the correct answer.
Mrs. Carlson classroom was great. The students were working on solving quadratic equations using the quadratic formula. I loved how she assisted and explained and did not rush to move on the next student that was needing help. I also loved the positive quotes she had on each desk.-Great Idea.
Mr. Campbells-shark tank idea was awesome. This was totally student centered-the students were the inventors and they had to give a sales pitch to convince us to invest. It was great to have the same investors next to each other as well so you can compare the sales pitch. The students did an excellent job.
Thanks for the Learning walks-there will be some things that I would like to implement in my class.

It was great to see Ms Dickeys classroom where I saw students in their reading comfort zones while she read aloud Animal Farm. Music in Coach Strawns class while student work independently and clear expectations and collaborative learning with structured time limits in Coach Cheesman’s class. Coach Cheesman had a clear power point- easy to follow for all students to stay on track from warmup, to reading synthesis, to collaborative peer check. All three were positive with students’ engaged following different teachers’ style.
