My mother, little brother, and I went with other family members on a trip to my mother's home country El Salvador. This was my first time out of the country and was really excited. Band and music was already something I really enjoyed and so when I joined marching band it was a whole new experience. Entering high school I had little to no friends but during marching band when you're out there in the heat all day the only thing that made it bearable and worth it was of course experiencing it with your friends. During marching band not only was my passion for music fed but I met my closest friends there suffering on the field together and made many meaningful relationships. This happened during quarantine and I had felt it was time to tell my parents officially. I remember being VERY hesitant and extremally nerve wracking. I knew my parents would still love me but hearing others experiences such as them getting kicked out or even abandoned left me in disarray. I told my dad first (who already knew) and he expressed that it doesn't change anything that he will still love me no matter what and I just got the biggest wave of relief. I then sat my mom down and told her. She was shocked but she also accepted me and told me she will still love me no matter what and tears were flowing down both of our faces. I feel that getting my first job is a good thing and a bad thing. First this was a good thing because I became more responsible overall and learned how to manage my money better. Along with getting my first job I became more independent and improved many skills such as communication skills and team work skills. Getting my first job was also a bad thing because I feel like that was the end of my childhood.
