Crime itself will impact the society negatively as the young that do illegal deeds might affect other innocent victims. Youth crime, may not occur in Singapore but it can happen in other countries. Youngsters in Singapore witnessing such a scene might be influenced to do bad deeds and they will commit crimes, making Singapore an unsafe country. Youth crime takes place, especially in places like USA because of the light measures taken in such lax societies where youth are allowed to carry arms at their own whim and fancy. Most importantly, parents did not guide them along the right path and teachers fail to be responsible.

Yes I think it is because in the vast world, if youth crime were to always take place here and there, people from other parts of the world might be influenced and with more people engaging in youth crime, it will make the world very dangerous. Innocent victims will suffer losses.
Also, increasing youth crime rates is an issue because it reflects badly upon many parents unwilling to teach their child in a proper manner, thus leading them falling into bad company. Teachers on the other hand, have no control over the students which show the government does not step up efforts to enhance control measures to these school rules, not only in Singapore, but other places.

Post campaigns in schools to bring about anti youth crime to raise awareness among all these gullible teenagers that do not have control over their own life. Councillors in school must set good role models to bring up the reputation of the school so that more students will be motivated to leave a good name when they wear their school uniform in public.

Most importantly, not just school effort, but the government has to be responsible for it as well. They should impose stricter punishments to youth not having to abide by the laws and constitutions, if not some of them might just take it very likely.

Parents need to spend more time with their children so that they do not feel abandoned or lonely. This way, the kids are less likely to fall into bad company as they are contented with the life that they have most of the time, which is home.

Last but not least, financial ability affects a persons social status and self esteem. A rich person is more likely to come from a more refined and cultured family and to be a decent person. If they are not financially stable, they might have life problems which make it more likely to fall into this trap. Besides, people who are financially unstable might resort to robberies or stealing, that might end them up in jail.

Yes, definitely. Friends play a major role in youth falling into delinquency. Youth wants to follow whatever their friends does so that the youth could prove to their friends that they are actually very cool. They want to avoid their friends for looking down on them if they would to decline their offer. Which is why it’s important for youth to search for friends who have pure intention instead of forcing them to do something that is against the law.

What do you think are the causes/factors of delinquency in youths?

Main causes and factors will definitely be parents and peers. Parents may be due to either an abusive household thus leading the child to be used to being violent and therefore vents their frustrations on others by inflicting harm, the other one may be due to lack of attention by parents to their child thus the child will turn to delinquency, create a ruckus in hopes that the parents will actually start paying attention to him/her. Peers wise maybe that the youth's peers are delinquents and by using peer pressure, the youth starts to follow in the footsteps of their peers because they want to fit in and be "cool".

Do you think youth crime is an issue in today’s society?

Youth crime, in SG i feel it does happen but it is not a very heavy issue that burdens SG as delinquents in SG, we call them YPs or XMMs normally have no balls or whatsoever to commit crime and stuff. The most they will do is vape and underage smoke. But crime-wise they don’t have the balls to do it, but ofc that does not discount those delinquents that will actually commit crimes. as such I feel that youth crime is not too much of an issue in todays society(IN SG, cant say for other countries)

I feel youths slide into delinquency is purely to fit in with their peers so that they wont get left out as we tend to be afraid to be the outcast, thus when they see their delinquent friends hanging together acting like dumbasses, they may just follow on due to wanting to fit in and be "cool" like them

1 way can include giving talks to the youths on the downside of sliding into delinquency as this will open their eyes to the real truth of delinquency and they may think twice before acting next time. Another way can be to make sure that those people that the child is hanging out with aren’t delinquents as these peers often will peer pressure the child into following their ways of being a delinquent, which may cause the child to sink deeper into hell.

Do you think friends increase the chances of youth falling into delinquency?

I think it is the type of friends that will determine the chances of youth falling into delinquency as peer pressure plays a huge role in youths' decision making as such, if the friend isn’t a delinquent and always gives the youth positive advices and stuff, he would have a lower chance of falling into delinquency and vice versa.

I think parents are responsible as it is their child and as parents it is their responsibility to always check up and ensure that their child is doing well and not going astray. They also need to communicate with their child and make it sch that it is comfortable for the child to tell the parents what is wrong instead of always hiding it away.
