The cross represents our interpretation of Christ's suffering, death, and resurrection. This is the core belief in our Christian faith. The cross is one of the most sacred symbols. For example, when the cross processes in at the beginning and end of Mass, we all stand to show our reverence to Jesus and our ideology. We also celebrate the Paschal Mystery during the Liturgy. The cross is possibly the most well-known symbol in the Liturgy. the most well-known appearance of the cross in Scripture takes place on Good Friday, when Jesus died on the cross.

The Eucharist represents the Body and Blood of Christ. Jesus gave us His own Body and Blood for His great sacrifice so that we can remember Him. Transubstantiation takes place during the Liturgy of the Eucharist and the bread and wine are turned into the Body and Blood of Christ. The Liturgy of the Eucharist is one of the main parts of the Mass. We receive the Eucharist and become fulfilled with Christ. Jesus gave us his body in order to remember Him. The Eucharist is displayed in the Liturgy on Holy Thursday. Jesus gathered all of his apostles and gave them His Body and Blood. He told them to keep this tradition and evangelize it to other non-believers when long after He passed on.

Symbols provide a very important service to us as humans. Symbols have been around for as long as humans have and has been used for communication. Symbols were very important especially around the time of Jesus because not everyone was very well-educated back then and not everyone knew how to read and write. Symbols make it easier for those people to learn about Christ and his message.

The shamrock is an essential symbol to Ireland. It is seen growing all over in the countryside. St. Patrick used this symbol a great deal. He taught the Irish about the Trinity. The Trinity is made up of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. They are three people in one. He described this by using the shamrock. The shamrock has three leaves but it is one plant. It symbolizes Christianity, faith, hope, love, and spiritual development. Most of Ireland is a very devout catholic nation and the shamrock accurately represents the Irish.

The U.S. Flag

The flag of the United States of America is the greatest symbol of our country. It symbolizes our freedom. Many brave Americans fight everyday for our flag in order to protect our freedom. They go out and risk their lives so that we are protected. John F. Kennedy once said "Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty." The stars stand for the 50 states. The red stripes represent hardiness and courage, the white signifies purity and innocence, and the blue stands for vigilance, perseverance and justice.

The bald eagle is also a great symbol of the United States. It was chosen on June 20, 1782 to be the National emblem of the U.S. The eagle also represents freedom just like the flag. It was chosen because it was a great representation of Americans: long life, great strength and majestic looks.
