President Nixon is the first president to resign after various charges of impeachment. The reason he resigned was because of the Watergate scandal. He attempted to spy on the opponent he was going up against for re-election. After everyone involved was caught and is charged with 3 reasons for impeachment he decides to resign. The cause of this was because of his actions and he didn't want to be impeached so he resigned.
