I think the way the foxes communicate with each other is believable. The foxes have to have some way to communicate to each other in real life, and in the book it seems pretty realistic. The humans can't understand what the foxes are saying, just like in real life. When humans talk, it is in quotation marks, but when the foxes are talking to each other, their words are is in italics. That makes it not necessarily fantasy. It is realistic fiction.
Katie

It is half realistic fiction and half fantasy. In the wild, foxes communicate using body language, which would explain why they speak in italics. However, they would not have words for the language they used.
