Enrolment - last Tuesday I came into college to enrol in the course travel and tourism. This developed my communication because I had to speak to sit down with my personal tutor, kirstie, and explained to her why I wanted to do this course and what was expected in this coarse. Alongside this, I had to hand my GCSE results into the course leaders. I communicated well because I was confident and clear. I could have asked more questions at my enrolment which is what I could have improved.

Maths class - I have to resit maths and attend maths every week to revise. I improved communication because I sat with new people and made new friends. I did well by asking questions and asking for help. I could have improved maths class by doing more work and and asking more questions.

Teamwork 1 - balloon chair

In the first week during enrolment I used teamwork on the first task we was given which was the balloon chair, this is where we had minimal materials to make a chair with only balloons and tape. We used teamwork by each of us blowing balloons up one by one to save time, once we did this we tied the balloons together by the end and taped them together to secure it better.

We had to get a piece of paper write our name and a fun fact about ourselves. Once we had done this, we used teamwork by attacking all of the pieces of paper together to make a blanket where we all had a fun fact about selves and we had to attach it with string to make sure it stayed together.

On Thursday we had to create a speech for an assessment where we had to pretend we was running a pre-flight briefing. We used teamwork in this because we created the speech together as a group and gave each individual a part of the speech they was to read out. In this assessment we all went one by one as a team.

Im reliable because I always update my tutors when I’m not going to be in college. If I am ever late for college I update my tutors on teams and let the know why. If I’m going to miss a day at college because of my medical reasons and appointments I tell them why and send them proof also. I had work experience at Barnsley chronicle which was voluntary. On this job I had to answer phone calls and write small paragraphs about people’s stories that they phone in. Once I took my notes about the information they wanted to be in the news paper and if they wanted their name in or if they wanted to be anonymous I would hand it over to the writer to write it up. I did 3 days every week for a month in August, I did 24 hours a week 8 until 4.

I did voluntary work at Sheffield children’s hospital, where I had to speak to young adolescents about arthritis which is a condition I suffer from, I had to speak to children who had been recently diagnosed to help them understand and settle their minds. I was in Monday till Friday doing 8 hours a day which was 32 hours a week where I would speak to different children, helping them with taking medication to helping them with physio.

Research assistant Manchester university - I did voluntary work for Manchester university where I put myself forward to assist with the university’s research of young adolescents diagnoses. I collaborated with the university by inviting participants to take part in a research study about my diagnosis journey, they would enter my rheumatology appointments and have an audio tape and ask me questions to help understand how young adults cope with this condition. Manchester university then took this on as a case study to evaluate and take more information on what they could do to make this journey smoother for young people.

Before my evaluation, I was worried and concerned because I was afraid I might make a mistake. However, my friend shared same feelings, and I didn't feel secure while waiting to enter the room either. I was concerned because I was worried about making myself and my companion fail by forgetting our lines.

I was still tense since I was under pressure throughout my evaluation, but generally I think it went well because my friend and I recalled our lines and performed everything that was expected of us, which helped me to relax. After my evaluation, I felt as though my anxiety subsided because everything was going according to plan. This increased my confidence beyond what it had been before the exam.

After my exam, one of my talents was that I talked confidently and could recite it without difficulty. I passed my exam because I recalled everything perfectly and practiced. My lack of confidence and difficulty staying focused to recall my lines were obstacles throughout my evaluation; however, I could address this by rehearsing more, trusting in myself, and building my confidence before the exam. I believe that in future examinations I will be more confident and less scared since I will feel more at ease and know what to do.
