Even if this was a short piece of figurative language, but it still showed me the message that it was trying to incorporate. I think that this a simile because the author compared the protagonists hands to stick using the word like. This piece of figurative language helps me learn that the teacher in love is VERY sick and is a totally different person than before. I understand more about what the main character has to go through looking at their favorite teacher. The author included this to help us visualize how the teacher must have looked when she was sick.

The author probably used this phrase to show the readers how much responsibly comes with being the best of the best. I feel like if the author said something like, "I have to do ____ and ____ because I am the best," the readers won't be able to connect to the story more. I can infer that Ace(character with the helmet) is has a big, wicked plan that he will execute in the near future.

In this section of dialogue, Nova is worriedly telling her uncle that she killed someone on her team. However, the uncle views it as a success because the teammate was selfish and didn't execute the project according to the plan. This piece of dialogue teaches me so much about Ace. Ace is a cruel and manipulative man who wants nothing but power for himself. This is because he didn't even care if Nova killed his own teammate, someone he "loved". I can also see that Nova is very nervous around her uncle, like she is just being a villain for her uncle. I think that if Ace is out of Nova's life, she can see how wrong she was about the whole idea of the Renegades. I can infer that Ace is planning for something big to happen that will overthrow the Renegades since he didn't take ANYTHING Nova said into caution.

This is effective because it shows the readers what Nova(main character) thought was reality and what it actually is. Because of this figurative language, I can tell that this place isn't as fancy as Nova thought and that she might be living life too luxuriously.

I know this because mortification is a feeling, something that can't have human characteristics. However, it says that the feeling overtook her, which isn't possible in real life. In the text it says, "He kept reaching out to ruffle Max's hair, or punch him lightly in the shoulder, or wrap his elbow around Max's neck and put him in a pretend chokehold."(Archenemies, 229) This piece of text shows me how much love there is between Max and Adrian, and even if they are not related, they act like real brothers.

The author is using a metaphor here. This is because she compares Raven's body to mountains and straight roads without using like or as. This is effective because the readers can picture how Raven looks in an expressive way. From this, I can tell that Raven doesn't really have anything to do with her dad anymore;she doesn't even look like him. This doesn't help me learn about the plot or characters, but I know understand what the protagonist(and her mom) look like.

Denotation: A type of tree known for their wood.
Connotation: The trees are meant to heal the broken bond between the 2 sisters.
The mood shown in this phrase is positive because it shows signs of hope for Raven and Brooke. The author used cottonwood trees because in the text it said that it had "healing powers" making them almost magical. I thought it was a great idea to use that "power" to strengthen the relationship between the siblings. Because of this sentence, we learn that the 2 siblings finally understood that it's no ones fault and that they have to work together.

The mood shown here is positive because of how joyfully the sisters react when the woman says this. It develops the plot of the story because without the woman talking about what a true sister really is, we wouldn't have seen the real bond between Raven and Brooke.

In this section of dialogue, Raven and Brooke, 2 stepsisters living in a camp, talk about if they are going to get in trouble for going into a "forbidden forest". I thought that this piece of dialogue was important because it strengthens the bond between the two sisters. Throughout the whole story, I saw that both siblings were purposefully trying to avoid each other and didn't really want to go near one another. However, after finally talking, they seem a little bit more bonded. When the dialogue ends by Raven saying "'I'll tell them how brave you are,'" I can see the love shared by the real siblings.

The author is using an idiom here. This is because she says that a character is "hanging by a thread" and that is a well known phrase that shouldn't be taken literally. This phrase means that Max was just barely doing well, that he was hanging on just barely enough to get him through the horror he is facing. This is effective because it lets the readers understand how hard it is for Max to stay alive without literally stating it. It helps me understand that one of the minor characters(but still important) are in big trouble, and the others are feeling terrible about it.

In Audacity, the main character can't do anything just because she is a woman. She, according to her mom and dad, is meant to be a mom, sister, and wife. Nothing more. She loves reading, but when her dad finds out, he throws the books it the stove flame. I can't exactly relate to this because my parents go above and beyond to make sure I have my freedom and can achieve whatever I want. However, in the world and society today, woman are still treated as "unequal" to man, and I think it is important for her to show that she can do whatever she wants.

The author is using personification to give his message. This is because "air" can't actually bear weight of dreams. In this sentence, both the dreams and the air are examples of personification. The reason that the author used this was to show that Clara has dreams that she wants to pursue. She doesn't want to be the perfect daughter, or sister, or wife, she wants to be an independent woman accountable for herself. She wants to spread her wings and has a lot of thought about doing so.

The pamphlets in this passage mean something more than just the words in a book to me and the main character in this book. As a connotation, a pamphlet is a small booklet containing information. However, for Clara, it is something, anything, to feast her eyes on since she loves reading and her dad took all her books and novels away from her. It opens her mind to a totally new set of questions and possibilities, and just makes her more excited.

In the book Audacity, I can infer that the story is going to end with Clara being able to go to school. This because in this part of the story, all Clara wants to do is be a boy so that she can get the same education and equal freedom as they can. She just wants to hold a book, feast her eyes on something, but her parents are very strict and say that she is not allowed to do that. So, I have a feeling that the book is going to end in Clara convincing her parents that girls have the same rights as boys and anyone can do anything they want.

She is the type of person to stand up for who and what she thinks is right, which I feel is an amazing trait to have. For example, when Ravi and Pip went to the grocery store to buy some food, the cashier winced when she saw him. just because Ravi's brother was convicted of murder, Ravi had to bear the consequences. Pip was so mad because of this, and she actually stood up for Ravi even if she didn't even know him that much. I would have never done this, and I really admire her for doing that.

"A grimace" can't be fighting with a human, because that is a human trait. The author used this, again, to show that Pip's smile was totally fake and that she was very uncomfortable. This is because she as at an enemies house, and just wants to be kind to their family before yelling at Max. To hide her anger and annoyance, she plastered a fake smile onto her face.
