Amendment #1:Freedom of Religion

Freedom of Religion protects people's ability to practice their beliefs and religion from government intervention. America does not follow the previous doctrine that the state must mandate an official religion and seek to protect it from the introduction and influence of other religion. Rather it is the guard that allows America to be a venue for any religious affiliation to be practiced, observed, and discussed openly without fear of persecution.

The limits of people's freedom of religion were tested when a Pastafarian, a believer in the faith of the Church of the Flying Spaghetti monster, attempted to be allowed to wear a colander in their license photo. Lindsay Miller of Lowell, Massachusetts was initially denied wearing a colander in her license photo at the RMV where she argued that although her faith is not known, she should not be denied of her religious wear because it is not known. The colander is typically worn by Pastafarians as a symbol of devotion to the Flying Spaghetti Monster. She was eventually allowed to wear her religious wear by the RMV and was apologized to.

The limits of religious freedoms are being protected to since although the religion is essentially a parody religion based on satire, the state must place the religion on equal footing as any other theist religion. The state is being fair in their protection of Lindsey and her right to practice her religious practices as she was simply seeking the same freedoms and rights that other practitioners of other religion would get.

#BeliveInWhatever #ReligionOfYourChoice

The Huffington Post, Nov. 16, 2015, 4:53 am
https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/pastafarian-colander-license-photo_us_56498e42e4b08cda34897b27

Amendment #1:Freedom of Speech

Freedom of Speech offer protection from legal actions and retaliation for individuals and communities ability to express their own thoughts and ideas. each person has wants and desires that range from a vast array of things. Each person has their own frustrations and desires thus wishes to express that angst and want. However, it is a social instinct to purposefully censor one's ideas, desires, or frustrations. Freedom of speech protects the right to express themselves and prevent them from being censored.

The Supreme Court was called in on the controversy of retaliatory police arrest against individual free speech. For instance, police officers arrest a Jaywalker in retaliation of the person wearing a ‘Black Lives Matter’ T-shirt or, alternatively, a ‘Make America Great Again’ cap.” The controversy occurs since although the police officer is just for arresting a jaywalker since there was probable cause but it might be the police officer is using his badge to actively suppress one's free speech. It is blurry on where to draw the line since it could be taken to an extreme where an anti-police department writer wrote a dissenting piece on the department and is arrest later for speeding 2 mph more than speed limit.

This case is a demonstration on the fact that the law is constantly evolving and the limitations on amendments will continue to be defined and alter. It shows how although people have the right to free speech it may be used as a means of targeting and suppress their individual beliefs. It is a fine balance in the protection of people rights of speech and the power of police to protect and arrest people.

#CantBeSilenced #LetItRing

The New York Times, Nov. 26, 2018, time N/A
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/11/26/us/politics/supreme-court-free-speech-police-power.html

Amendment #1:Freedom of the Press

The Freedom of Press is protecting people's ability to share their opinions and thoughts through media such as published materials without government intervention. The government is unable to prevent the publication of a news outlets such as a newspaper even if it will reveal information that will endanger our national security. It is unconstitutional to pass a law that would force press outlets to publish info against their will, give punishments to the spreading of false or truthful information about a person, press taxes, or prevent the press from legal proceedings and spreading information afterward. The definement on the freedom of the press has evolved over the years as the press has transitioned from a pamphlet to a more online social media society.

During the Trump regime, Trump has actively insinuating his own agenda on the press by calling the press "enemy of the people" as he continues to denounces dissenting media such as NY Times as "fake news." In response, 300 news outlets refuted Trump's attempt to control the news cycle by attempting to craft a single state-media instead of a free-media society. The news media declared that the free press and their opinions are a fundamental component of the democratic republic and calling it "fake news" and other assault on the press is unjust.

The new outlet is arguing for the right of the press to publish and distribute information without the interference from the government such as how Trump has actively attacked news outlets that go against his political agenda. It is showing how the press should be protected from being inclined and force to post information that would align to what the president wishes since it would devolve the free-press media of the US to a state-run media.

#NewsBringer #OpinionsAreSpread

USA Today, Aug. 16, 2018, 12:13 pm
https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/media/2018/08/16/news-outlets-across-u-s-confront-trumps-enemy-people-stance/1006865002/

Freedom of Assembly involves the protection of people's individual ability to freely join to voice their collective thoughts or ideas. The government is not allowed to prevent people's ability to associate and gather physically to voice their dissent and their opinions as a collective. The freedom of assembly has protected people from all different perspectives such as strikers and anti-war demonstrators to the Klu Klux Klan and the Westboro Baptist Church.

However, there is a define limitation to the freedom of assembly. It protects peaceful assembly and protest and does not protect violent protests and assembly. Government officials can have some limitations on the assembly by having reasonable limits such as the time, location, and manner. It is to prevent things that disrupt the flow of society such as traffic congestion.
#JoinTheMovement #GroupThink

Amendment #1: Freedom of Petition

Freedom of Petition involves the protection of the right of the people to openly seek help from the government to fix a problem without any fear of repercussions. The focus of the freedom of petition is to ensure that citizens can direct the government to issues that concern them such as exposing corruption. It prevents Congress from preventing people's ability to associate and actively have voluntary public participation to seek and voice grievances. It is a way for people to express their pent up frustrations without resorting to public engagement such as through mobs. It allows for blocs of public interest to grow that can be used to garner political change by gathering voting power.

However, the freedom of petition is often overlooked as it seems to be obvious. Whether it be lobbying, letter-writing, e-mail campaigns, testifying before tribunals, filing lawsuits, supporting referenda, collecting signatures for ballot initiatives, peaceful protests or picketing, without the freedom of petition theses actions would not be protected today. Although it may seem obvious, it is fundamental to republics like the United States to continue to be a democratic republic.

#GovernmentNeedsChange #NoFearPetition
