Your task is to:

1. Listen to the voice memos below.

2. After listening to each one match up the voice memo with the corresponding image by moving the boxes below (keeping them in two columns)

(Consider gender, ethnicity, clothing, tone of voice, inflection and age)

2. Were there any match ups that were difficult to make? Why?

3. What words/phrases were used most often? Why do you think this is?

4. What words/phrases stood out to you? What do they reveal about the person/people who used them?

5. Did most people use formal or informal language, or a mixture of both? How does this relate to the subject matter (field)?

6. Who did you relate to the most? What was it about their language that appealed to you/was similar to your own?

7. What would you have said the same/differently and why?

8. Who was the easiest/hardest to understand and why? (consider pace, articulation, pronunciation, lexical density of phrases)

9. What can you identify from the spoken word that you could not in the written?

This is an open forum for us to really unpack our answers and start using some key terms.

1. Download the 'Quick Voice' application onto your iPad/iphone
2. In your own time using 'Quick Voice' record a short (2-3 minute) conversation you have with a person - this could be a teacher, friend, sister, mother, principle, neighbour, stranger, uncle, or barista at your local cafe. 
3. Email the recording to yourself and post on the padlet page below in a single file writing your name in the title space. 
4. Listen to other students' recordings.
5. We will then discuss register, field, tenor and mode and how context effects language use through comparison of a few of the recordings posted - there will be a 'scribe' to write down important notes on a separate word document which will be posted below.
6. You will have some time to explore the links below to help with the key terms.

2. Using crocodoc http://personal.crocodoc.com upload your transcript and analyse it highlighting and making comments about the language used (see example below).

3. Once you are done write a brief 500 word analysis as a word document following the 'Task 4 Breakdown' (posted below).

4. Attach the crocodoc link to your annotated transcript and your brief analysis task below. Make sure to include your name in the title space of both posts.

5. View other students' crocodocs and analysis tasks.

2. Write a post on the blog page reflecting on the tasks completed and the new things you have learnt in the process. Add a picture or video related to your reflection.

3. Read other students' blog posts and comment on at least three of them. You could make an observation, agree/disagree with a statement they made or ask them a question.
