I chose this song because she talks about how it is in school and how the principal is very controlling of them. The principal never lets them leave the school and gives them very harsh disciplines in front of the whole school. The song supports my thesis statement because it talks about not having freedom. This song also relates to my thesis because she says "shooting at the angels while claiming you're the good guy all you want is cash and hype "F**k our dreams" and that's not right." To me the "angels" is the border patrol shooting at the immigrants trying to cross even if they have kids with them. They try to act like good people but they kill innocent people almost everyday just for the money and they are basically saying "F**k our dreams."

"Can't you see that we're all hurting? If you're not teaching, we're not learning Excuse me, how much are you earning?"

"When you come and hurt us just so you can get your money Forced to follow the leader Who's being possessed by demons."

"I've tried to make you listen But you won't, it's your way, right? Killing kids all day and night Prescription pills and on-line fights Shooting at the angels while claiming you're the good guy All you want is cash and hype "F**k our dreams" and that's not right."

The American Dream to my mom means "Freedom and equal rights for everyone." Their American Dream was to always have a say in life and not get controlled by bigger powers/people and not have rights taken away. They said their American Dream has come true because they are free to whatever they put their mind to and if they really want that. The American Dream to them is realistic because they said If you put your mind to something and push yourself you can achieve anything if you really want it. They should get back up and keep going and never give up. They think yes the US is a land of opportunity because there are a lot of job opportunities for people all around and you have more freedom than others here.

The video clip talks about family, faith, love, and triumph. It shows Serena Williams with her sister and father on the way to play tennis and they drive through rich white neighborhoods. It talks about family, faith, love, and triumph. This clip supports my thesis because it shows a family who want to just live life normally like everybody else but they didn't really have equal rights back in this time so they would have to play tennis in a unsafe are and where they lived was also unsafe. They had a chance at the American Dream but their dad was persistent but the girls never gave up and kept telling him they wanted to play tennis. They eventually got what they wanted and started working with the white man who said they would be huge tennis players if they practiced with him and that's exactly what happened they never gave up and pushed themselves for what they wanted. They went to be on TV and got paid good money and went against people who were already huge.

A brief history of the American Dream - Sarah Churchwell

This article supports my thesis because it says regardless of where anyone was born or what class they were born into, can attain their own versions of success in a society in which upward mobility is possible for everyone. Also it says the American Dream is believed to be achieved through sacrifice, risk-taking, and hard work, rather than by chance. In a society based on these principles, an individual can live life to its fullest as they define it. Achieving the American dream requires political and economic freedom, as well as rules of law and private property rights. Without them, individuals cannot make the choices that will permit them to attain success, nor can they have confidence that their achievements will not be taken away from them through arbitrary force. The American dream promises freedom and equality. It offers the freedom to make both the large and small decisions that affect one’s life, the freedom to aspire to bigger and better things and the possibility of achieving them, the freedom to accumulate wealth, the opportunity to lead a dignified life, and the freedom to live in accordance with one’s values even if those values are not widely held or accepted.

This supports my thesis because it shows how in Mexico parents leave their kids to go to "El Otro Lado" this is happening very regularly to groups of kids in Mexico. So it applies to certain groups of people and their culture.

Reyna Grande reveals about the American Dream that she realized she was capable of accepting herself, seizing opportunities and determining her path to success.
