November 1942
This battle between Germany and the Soviet Union lasted from August 1942-February 1943. Germany's Luftwaffe army, was believed to be the best air force. This at first seemed like an Axis victory considering it was one of the most gruesome and bloodiest battles of WWII. Stalin lost more than 200,000 men in battle and tens of thousands of civilians. It started to look up when Russian Generals planned a counterattack against Germany named "Operation Uranus". This was the first defeat admitted by Hitler.
