What Is White Privilege, Really?

What is white privilege? The question was answered by Peggy McIntosh's book that was published in 1988. The book called "Unpacking the Invisible Knapsack." Peggy said that white privilege was an imaginary force for white people so their not being racially profiled by others that are also white. White privilege started way back in history and we have white privileges because of all the historical events that happened like slavery. White people also think that we are better than any other race because of all the privileges we have in this world. In the book Their Eyes Were Watching God, a character named Mrs. Turner was a racist African American lady that was racist towards black people because she thought she was better. Just like white privileges white people thought they were better because of all the privileges we have.

On CBS at October 18 2018 the CBS news channel talked about a trend that's starting to come back called Blackface. They talked about how blackface was a form of art used against African American people because it was very racist. During the history of America blackface was in theaters, on the streets, or in homes all used to make fun of African Americans. In the book Their Eyes Were Watching God, in chapter 2 When Jane and Joe went to that town the two men were pretty much using blackface humor when talking to Jane and Joe. They didn't have 1 sentence without making fun of them that was racist or not.

Too Many Americans Think Patriotism Means Racism and Xenophobia

The Nation an online news website based on politics and news around the world wrote an article on what it means to be a patriot what isn't patriotism. The article stated that before 9/11 there was only 1 understanding on patriotism which was putting an American flag on your front yard and loving the rights we have in this country. Sense 9/11 happened patriotism changed it's meaning to other people. People started to think that killing non Americans like in 2012 a Sikh temple was attacked by an American claiming he was doing a patriotic act.

Why, I, as a black man, attend KKK Rallies by Daryl Davis

Daryl Davis, an African American man attends KKK rallies because he became friends with the leader. They first met when his secretary asked the KKK leader to meet up with Daryl for his book. After the interview Daryl started to invite the KKK leader and he always brought his body guard no matter where he went. After a while he started coming over without his body guard and they started to become friends. Daryl started to go to the KKK rallies and the leader said he respects Daryl than anyone else. This is somewhat like the part in the book Their eyes were watching god when Joe and Janie went to the town and no one thought about them or even liked them. After a while Joe and Janie started to get respect from everyone because of all the changes they made for the town to make it better. Everyone started to respect them because their gross town started to become a reasonable decent town.

Caged Bird by Maya Angelou

The Caged Bird is a poem about free white people and slaved African Americans. The poem tells us about a free bird that dose what it wants to do like fly in the breeze and eats what ever it wants like fat worms. Then The poem tells us about a caged bird unable to do what it wants. The bird is of course caged, its wings are chipped, and its legs are chained together only able to open its throat and sing. The caged bird can only watch the free bird eat and do what it wants while the caged bird lays there singing in fear. Back in the day when slaves were still a thing thats how places and towns use to be. White people were able to go around do what they want and be free while African Americans could only be forced to things and weren't allowed to do anything but what they were told to do. The caged bird singing in a fearful tone references that African Americans use to sing in a fearful tone because they were scared and that's all they could do when they had free time.
