  • Introducing the concept of painting to children. Begin by showing them bottle of paint and a paintbrush. Demonstrate by how they can dip the paintbrush in paint and then paint on a piece of paper.
  • Introduce various things which can be used for painting like sponge, earbuds, blocks, cotton, textured materials, etc.
  • If there is an activity on sponge painting and the child is unable to hold the sponge tie the sponge to the child's hand and let the child do the activity. This will not make the child feel left out.

  • Give the child 3-4 paints in a palette and a sponge. Place a canvas in front of him and ask the child to dip it in a particular paint eg: blue. Let the child do the activity on his own where in the child has to identify the color blue.
  • Conduct a painting hour for the children in class. Present the children with various paints, crayons, pencils, sketch pens, etc. Ask the children to choose from a variety of options and make something on the given canvas.
  • Show a child with a picture book and ask the child to point out a particular color. eg: point out all the things which are red in color. This will also enhance Eye-hand Coordination.
  • Make children work in pairs for an painting activity. This will help in social skills as well as sense of helping the other in time of difficulty.
