 Zeroah
• The Roasted Lamb shank bone
• This represents the pascal lamb sacrifice made the night the Israelites escaped Egypt 
• Some people believe it also represents the outstretched arm of God 
Baytsah
• The Roasted Egg
• This represents the sacrificial offerings at the second temple 
• Some believe it also represents the Jewish people because when under heat they get tougher
Maror 
• Bitter herb (often horseradish)
• The bitterness of the herbs brings tears to the eyes and recalls the bitterness of slavery
Charoset
• The sweet salad made of apples, nuts, wine, and cinnamon 
• This represents the mortar used by the Hebrew slaves to make bricks
Karpas 
• The green vegetable (usually parsley)
• Represents the freshness of spring or the richness of nobility 
Chazeret
• The Second bitter herb (often romaine lettuce)
• This represents the same as Maror and is meant to represent the bitterness of slavery

The time when God sent Moses to free the Israelites from enslavement by the Egyptians. As a result of the Pharaoh’s denial however, God cast the 10 plagues upon Egypt which included the slaying Egypt’s firstborn sons. In order to protect themselves from the angel of death, according to the Tanakh (Torah) - Exodus 12:7 “They shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and the lintel of the houses in which they are to eat it”.
