Reply to the following FQ in complete sentences. Don't forget to put your name as the title of the post! FQ: Analyze the battle between Beowulf and Grendel’s Mother. How did both maintain the Anglo Saxon value of a “fair fight”? (Make sure you have a two-part answer! An example from the text and an explanation of that example will work! Cite the line numbers!)

Beowulf and Grendel's mother both maintained a fair fight by Grendel's mother pulling beowulf into her battle hall (lines 469-470). She did not want the other monsters to help kill beowulf because then she couldn't take all the credit for killing the almighty beowulf. Beowulf kept it a fair fight by him pulling out a magic sword that could actually kill Grendel's mother (lines 513-515). She was protected by a spell that didn't allow a regular sword to kill her. That was a disadvantage to beowulf but to make it even he had a magic sword that override her spell.

The battle was considerd a fair fight because they enterd an arena so no other monster could get in and join, so it was a true 1v1. Grendel's mother could have ripped him apart underwater, but she wanted a fair fight so instead she took him to her battle hall, and fought him fairly. Beowulf kept it a fair fight by using his bare hands for some of the fight, and then grabbing the sword off the wall and finally ending the fight by severing her head.

Grendel's mother kept it a fair fight by bringing them to a "battle hall," where it was just the two of them fighting one-on-one. In lines 469-471, we learn that in this battle hall, nobody else can get in to attack him, this ensures readers that it will be a fair fight. Beowulf also held up his end of the Anglo-Saxon "fair fight" by going down into her lake, without his men, to fight her by himself. In lines 450-452, it says how Beowulf got into the lake alone, not waiting for any of his men to follow him or tell him he could.
