It's a personal thing with God and how he views us once we repent - he no longer assigns status of "sin" to us.

Necessary to take the first step and humble yourself before God and show Him you are willing to change - realisation that only He is able to cover your sin. 

The decision lies in God's hands, and if transgressions are forgiven - this individual is both blessed and has been reconciled with God.
