Introduction

               					      The Inner Clash

My essential question for this unit was “How are good and evil part of the human experience?” as I believe this concept should be delved into deeper and be a part of our learning. This topic is worth spending the time to explore because by examining the good and evil aspects of human nature we gain a more in depth understanding of ourselves. Additionally, we can utilize our knowledge about our human nature to become more successful by harnessing the goodness in us while managing the darker parts within. Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde examines the complexity of the inner clash as Dr. Jekyll is struggling to keep his evil side, Mr. Hyde, under control. Dr. Jekyll is a benevolent scientist that works on helping others but his curiosity of his evil within causes him to create Mr. Hyde. Dr. Jekyll doesn’t understand the capacity Mr. Hyde has to harm others in the beginning which causes Mr. Hyde to eventually take over. Additionally, Frankenstein tackles how the monster struggles with what is right and wrong. The monster starts as an individual who seeks to help those around him with a pure heart. However, after Frankenstein abandons him and the monster is rejected by all the people around him he is consumed by the darkness. Furthermore, the WW2 visual of medics helping an injured soldier displays the good and evil in human nature combating each other. The medics try to help save their teammate which demonstrates compassion. All the people in the picture are fighting a war which is the result of the capacity for horror human nature has.

My takeaway from the readings is that it is crucial to understand your capabilities of good and evil in order to manage them and become the best version of yourself. By not knowing your potential for harm you can let the evil consume you if you're not careful like Dr. Jekyll. The human experience is at its most beautiful when both positives and negative aspects blend together into one.
