The USA and USSR were in a race for space. The USSR was the first people to launch a satellite into space, so the USA followed. They started to send more people into space and more maned ships then they settled on one goal the moon. The USA started testing out rockets and building them to send to the moon and the US finally did. Neil Armstrong was the first man to set foot onto the moon and when he did he said "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.".

This was an open conflict because the whole world knew about it and it went on for years. The USA and USSR were competing to get to the moon and they were on different sides of the planet.

The political ideas that shaped this conflict is democracy vs. communism. This was the start of the cold war and made the USA and USSR fight over everything just because the USA did not like communism and russia used communism to rule their country. They argued over things like getting to the moon and exploring space and who had a better space program otherwise known as the space race.

A human right that was expressed during the space race was the right to move. During the space race the USA and USSR were sending rockets into space and none of them told each other they can't do that. That's the right thing to do it was friendly competition and no one told one another that they cant do a thing that they clearly can.
