North Korea is run by one person the dictator, Kim Jong-un, meaning they're ruled in fear and they don't have much say in what happens. They're also under the belief that their country is above all, this is called fascism. Unlike North Korea the United states is labeled as a representative democracy. This means the people the people vote who they want to be our leader. The USA and North Korea are run by two completely different forms of government.

The laws of North Korea are very strict and brutal. If broken the consequences may also affect your family as well. This is called "the three generations of punishment" law. In North Korea watching any out of country programs is considered a crime. You need government permission to own a computer.

In North Korea leaders are elected by democratic elections but in Kim Jong-un's case he wasn't elected, he inherited the position from his father when he passed away in 2011. Dictators usually change the political system to where they can't be overthrown or lose power until he passes away. In the case of Kim Jong-un a blood relative will inherit the position because he has no children to inherit the position. Kim Jong-un has been the dictator of North Korea for 7 years. His first relative to be leader was Kim ll sung was elected president in 1972 and died in July of 1994 passing the position down to Kim Jong-un's father.

Citizens in North Korea don't have as much rights as we do. For example they don't have freedom of speech. They also don't have the right to have their own religion. Women don't have as many rights as men do in North Korea. You can't leave North Korea without permission.
