This personal essay is about a teenager's experience through the pandemic. She shares her struggles of learning through a screen and the toll it takes on her emotional health. she shares how she was the oldest of 5 other kids and how she feels neglected as her parents take priority helping her younger siblings. Mariella Murillo doesn't just talk about her struggles but other people's struggles through that time. Even though she is going through a lot on her own she is still empathetic towards others. through everything she's going through she still made time to help her siblings. Another thing she does is she writes this essay to the Boston Public School System. her plea to the schools is to think about the people in that time, those who don't have the resources and need open schools to thrive.

this essay helps us answer the question What role do schools play in the social, physical, emotional, and behavioral development of children? What are the consequences if these needs are not met?

in this piece doesn't have a place to go to study, her house is very packed and noisy. this is a reason why you need school. schools play a bigger role then education as they provide a place to socialize a place to eat and a place to get out the house. schools have accommodations that home does not making is extremely important for kids mental and physical health. without it Kids health can decline mentally just as it is shown in this piece.

Organizations combating inequalities in education

This article introduces organizations around the world that help battle inequalities within the education system. These organizations develop plans and strategies to not only benefit students and their learning but teachers as well. They promote collaboration between educators and share solutions to finance issues. Some of them go beyond an educational environment and into a home life by promoting creative activities and non academic learning too. The organization Education International helps combat educational inequalities and racism or xenophobia that contributes to the inequalities in learning. This source helps us answer the questions of what organizations exist to help combat issues with educational inequality, and are they successful.

in this article Michelle struggles through virtual school because the aspect of virtual school is a poor alternative to her normal education. it's hard to find motivation when you are locked in your room for the day knowing you'll have more Schools provide a place to socialize and a place to eat for kids like Mariella. without school many many kids are stuck on their own in their homes causing there mental health to decline. this is why it is important to get a good education during the years they are developing. just how Michelle expresses in her piece.

I Was a Low-Income College Student. Classes Weren't the Hard part

This personal essay was written by Anthony Abraham Jack. In this essay he shares his personal struggles as a Black and Latino low-income college student just emerging from poverty. faced many challenges during his college experience, such as working 4 jobs, and the feeling of loneliness during school breaks because he didn't have the money to return home like his peers. The author also explains how race shaped his education experience during his primary years.

This essay helps us to answer the question of how race, gender, or sexual orientation factor into the quality of a persons education?

Being of Black Latino descent, many teachers looked down upon the author, and already had a perceived notion of who the author was. Teachers saw him and other black students as less than the other kids, so whenever he made a mistake he was heavily punished for it. This can destroy a students drive to do well in school and receive a good education.

Colleges also have a set stereotype for students of color, believing that they bring trouble to their campuses, but cannot showcase that. This may again make make these students feel that they are destined to fail before even trying.

This personal writing piece is about a low-income university student who faced tremendous problems during the Covid-19 pandemic. Before the pandemic, she was able to fulfill the true experience of being a University student and felt that she truly belonged in the community. However, once the pandemic hit, she felt that she lost an academic space and the resources she greatly needed for University.

This helps us to answer the question of what factors contribute to inequality in public education?

One factor that contributes to the inequality in public education is not having the resources needed to complete assignments and to study. As the author mentioned, when she transitioned into remote learning, she lost access to a printer, computer, unlimited Wi-Fi, a library, and a quiet space. These were all things she greatly needed for her education, but facing financial issues, none of these things would be within reach to purchase.

As being the oldest of all her siblings, the author felt a great responsibility to not only focus on her academics, but also her family.

In a study of more than 38,600 students from different colleges, it was found that students of color reported having many basic need concerns. This data is showed in the graph above.

These insecurities include food, housing, technology, and more. As a result, these factors contribute to students struggles during college, and creates an unfair learning environment for those students.

Under the organization of UNICEF, this article shares how important a quality education is for children. Worldwide, over 600 million children lack basic proficiency levels in math and reading, though many are attending school.

This helps to answer the question of What are the consequences of not receiving a quality education in the primary years?
Without a proper education in the primary years, students are more at risk of having trouble with employment later on in their life. Additionally, they may suffer from health problems and be unable to make decisions for their future or help their society.
