When they began to fight, it came to a point where Poney Boy was getting drowned in the fountain. So Johnny saved him and killed Bob. While his intention wasn't to kill Bob, Bob could've killed Poney Boy if he didn't save him. Johnny showed that no matter what, he will be a hero to the greaser gang if needed even though that isn't his personality AT ALL. It ended with Bob getting killed, and Johnny and pony boy being forced to run away. This shows us another example of extremely divided and rivaled social class. Either way there's not going to be any blood feud between our outfit and Shepard's. If we needed them tomorrow they'd show. If Tim beats Dally's head in, and then tomorrow asks us for help in a rumble, we'll show. Dally was getting kicks. He got caught. He pays up. No sweat." (Hinton); therefore, this shows that Friendship is very powerful. The Greasers will stand up for each other and stick together during the worst times no matter what happens.
