Dear Melba, it is never easy to face challenges, and the ones you are facing are so brutal! I encourage you to keep your faith. Continue to remember words of wisdom from your Grandma India and to write in your diary to help you stay strong. Consider what Gandhi said, "You must be the change you wish to see in the world." I urge you to remind yourself every day that you are facing these challenges at Central High because you believe in your right to a better education. It is not easy to respond to violence with love, but Gandhi encourages us to avoid counter-hatred. Read his words and be emboldened. You a e warrior and I believe in you!

: Hey Melba, I know you have been through a lot in your life cause of everything that’s going on and at Central High and outside the school, but when you're about to go to sleep and wake up pray that you will have a good day at school. I encourage you to pray that no one harms you or does anything bad. I also suggest you to for your friends and for your family pray that you go to school safe and you come back home safe. Try not to start any problems with anyone, don't start a fight or anything. If someone says something mean that offends you just ignore it no matter what they say to you just go on in your day and live your life.

One last thing never turn your back on an enemy. Thats about it for my advice remember you are a warrior so keep fighting you can do it!

Hey, Melba! I recommend you to not behave in a way that pleases your mother and grandmother. No one can always please the people around them because some wouldn't be fond of what you do. Someday, you could want to do something that makes you happy and thinks it's a good idea, but your mother or grandmother might not approve of your actions or opinions. I think you should do what makes you joyful and think what is right. Doing this can make life a little bit easier for you. Also, doing this can have some other people that share the same ideas with you can side along you.

My advice: Melba if you want to stay alive until May 29 I advise you to keep doing what you are doing but make small adjustments. You have to be fearless and try ignoring the white kids at Central so if they trip you or try hurting you just get back up and walk away because they won't pay you any attention. You also need to learn how to run fast so you can escape situations faster. You always have to watch your back in case if someone coming just so you can be alert at all times. You have to be hopeful of when its all over too. You have to stay committed to do what you are doing because you can change the world for the black people and create justice. Your purpose is to spark the world with you and 8 others lights and make a change for once and for all.

My advice: Melba keep your head up and don’t worry about what people do or say. Because at the end of the day people are not always going to be your friend. I had to learn that myself. Everybody will not be for you or agree with you so you have to keep doing what is right for you. I also encourage you to keep believing in yourself. Even when it gets bad, you still have to believe in yourself and what you stand for. You should also listen to what your family tell you especially your grandmother. She is telling you what is right.
