I prefer to be in a quiet place if I’m reading as I can be easily distracted. If I’m listening to a story I hope the story makes me want to listen. That it keeps me engaged.

My parents and grandparents usually tell stories from the past and experiences they have had. Usually, it’s about good times they’ve had. Stories have also reflected as a lesson to be learned and teach me right from wrong and the consequences that could be faced.

I do listen to what they say and learn. We are teenagers and we’re not perfect. So to hear the perspectives from an elder can help with making better choices.

Personally, I tend to become distracted in settings with lot's of activity. For this reason, I would choose to read in a quiet space so I can focus. To listen to a story, I would grab a cup of tea with my family and sit down in our living room.

To reflect on and interpret a story, I try to live through their experiences. In other words, I seek to understand how the author may have felt in the situations they describe. This gives me a greater sense of awareness and understanding of a story and why the lessons should be passed on.

When I learn "from" a story, I take in the lessons and insights it gives to me, and how they relate to my own life. Learning "with" a story, on the other hand, is more interactive. It is more about discussing it with others and role-playing which helps me connect with the story on a deeper level and see it from different perspectives.
