Include perspectives and narratives from diverse views to challenge the more focused on narratives and promote critical thinking. Ex: Instead of only focusing on the more viewed history of the European colonization of North America students could learn more about the history and perspectives of the Indigenous people who lived on the land for thousands of years and were forced out.

Create a lesson plan that teaches about your students' diverse cultures and experiences. Select texts, resources and topics for your lesson plan that show a wide variety of different perspectives. For example, in history lessons you could include what different ethnic groups achieved and worked towards for the development of the United States.

Diverse Representation: Display posters, books and other materials that reflect a variety of cultures, ethnicities, abilities, and family structures.

Involve Families: Partner with families to learn about their cultural backgrounds and incorporate their knowledge and experiences into the classroom. Offer cultural days where families can come with cultural foods, music and traditions to introduce to the students.

Translate Materials: Provide materials in multiple languages to support students who are learning English or come from different linguistic backgrounds. Also take the step to learn some basic phrases in another language to connect with diverse students as well as making them feel seen.

Accessibility: Make sure that your classroom is physically accessible to students with disabilities including ramps, adjustable tables and assistive technology. Make your classroom setup feel welcoming to all students and avoid having students left out due to inaccessibility.

Organize projects that connect classroom learning with real world experiences in the community. For example, local history projects. Students can research and explain the history of their community, interviewing longtime residents and visiting historical sites. Another idea could be environmental projects. Students can work on the issues in their environment like cleaning up the park, planting trees or starting a community garden.

Host events that celebrate different cultures and traditions. This could look like international food fairs where families bring dishes from their cultural backgrounds and students learn about the origins and significance of the food or multicultural festivals where families can come with music, dance, storytelling and crafts from various cultures.

Offer workshops that provide parents with information and resources to support their children's education and cultural understanding. For example, you could provide a language and literacy workshop where parents learn about reading strategies, language development and how to support their children's literacy skills.

We should make sure families, and the school are talking and working together. One idea is to host family nights- think game nights, movie nights or even celebrations of different cultures where everyone can join in the fun. We could also offer volunteer chances and invite parents to help out in the classrooms, the library or at school functions.
