There are some reasons that Matthew Flinders wanted to explore. One of them is he wanted to get information about the parts of Australia that haven’t been explored yet. That is positive because he can share that information with other people like dangerous parts that you shouldn’t through and rich farmland etc. Another reason why he wanted to explore the unexplored parts of Australia so he could get the glory for exploring it. That is a negative because other people wanted the glory too so it was competition to who would get there first. They would even fight each other for the glory and kill others so they could get there first.

Matthew Flinders found out a lot about Australia like he found out about the great barrier reef. He found out that it is impossible to go through because your boat would hit the coral. That is positive because he told everyone that you can’t sail through it or you will get in a shipwreck, and that saved a lot of people's lives

Another thing that he did was surveyed the entire southern coast of Australia. That is a positive because he found out what land was good for farming and what places you shouldn’t go. One more thing he did was he proved that Tasmania was not part of the mainland of Australia, and that is a positive because you can change the map of Australia so it is correct and you can also make a shorter way of getting past Tasmania.

Mastery LT 3 The first source is a painting of Matthew Flinders from that time period when he was in the military. The second source was a journal from when he was in Australia. It is saying his first thoughts about Australia. It says “This new land is very rich is soil and materials, and the temperature is very warm and humid perfect for growing crops” (Flinders). They are different because the painting is just a portrait of him while the pournal is his thoughts on his newly explored land. They are the same because they are from the same time period (1700’s to the 1800’s).

Left Behind- Matthew Flinders didn’t leave behind anything in Australia no even a colony or anything like that. He was only there to find information out about Australia.

Took- He took many things from Australia including new plants and animals that they found in Australia. Also Matthew flinders scientists, artists, and biologists to study about the land (animals, plants, fertility of the land, and the geography of the land). His information that he brought back made other explorers seek out Australia, and all of the explorers always had Matthew Flinders nots with them because they had

There are many effects of colonization good and bad. One of them is native populations decrease because explorers brought smallpox when they arrived to the land that they were exploring. That is a negative because smallpox killed off thousands of natives because they were not immune to it yet.Another effect is slavery because there is so many new raw materials in the new lands. That is a negative because people are being taken from their families (mostly Africans) even kids. They are being used to farm and work. It is also kind of a positive because you are getting food, supplies, etc. so you can make money and leads to a good economy. Another effect was environmental changes like the loss of beavers that they hunted. That is a negative for one because that is what native americans hunted and ate so they didn’t have a lot of food anymore. There was the loss of beaver ponds which served for homes for fish and water sources for many animals. That lead to a lot of the animals dying off and that wasn’t good for the people because they were not getting enough food.
