According to experts 20% of the garbage in the ocean is from ships at see and the other 80% is from land-based sources.
  • How did it come to be in the middle of the Pacific/Atlantic?
Due to people littering especially near water is how it ends up inthe Pacific garbage patch because when plastic or other trash reaches the shore line the currents carry it out into the ocean.
  • What is keeping the garbage there? The movement of the currents.
