Our first lecture in this week is introduction to development. Honestly, I dont have any idea what is real definination and concept about development itself. I thought that development itself means the increasing of advance in technology and the increasing construction of building like skyscraper. But today lecture have open my mind that development also includes development in politic, economy, social and culture. The concept of development is wide and big because it contain many aspect that we must consider. But, we need to remember that development also can causes positive and negative impact. For example, at my hometown ( Lundu ) today we have face a lots of development like highway network ( Pan Borneo Highway ) that connect us to another part of places like Telok Melano and Pantai Pugu. This type of development have give us benefit in introducing Lundu to become as tourist area and the economy for people in my hometown increasing because of the development. But, the development also give bad impact because the road construction process can cause a air pollution, water pollution, solid wastes and noise that can harm the local community and also the wildlife. I think that all from me today, I trully looking forward into the next lecture.

The speech from President Truman on 1949 has triggered the term of "development" and it is a duty of the West to bring development toward undeveloped country ( bekas tanah jajahan ).
