 Have you ever heard the story of Suomenlinna? If not, we will tell you about it now. Suomenlinna, the historic sea fortress just off the coast of Helsinki, is the most exciting place, filled with lots of secret tunnels, exciting cannons and war monuments. Every piece tells a story. When you visit, you should grab a flashlight as well as pack some delicious snacks. To get to the island, you may take the ferry. If you go there, you will certainly see some beautiful sights, as well as enjoying the lovely weather and the charming sea view. Nesco really liked the ice cream on the beach, and the beautiful flower fields too!

It is a very well-preserved example of industrial mills in Europe during the 19^th and 20th centuries, and its beautiful location in the Repovesi National Park contributes to an amazing experience. First you can travel back in time in one of the exhibitions, or why not get a tour of the grounds? After that you can visit some of the small shops and the restaurant. There are also many natures trails you can follow, or even go canoeing on one of the lakes nearby, if you’re lucky you might even spot some of the prehistoric rock paintings that have been found in the area. You can even according to a Finnish law called “Every Man’s Rights” pick the mushrooms or eat the berries that grow in the forest.

Vin - It’s inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 1998, was one of the most important archaeological discoveries of the upper Paleolithic all over Europe.

Pedro - If you go to the Museum, you can see more engravings of the Côa valley.

Leonor - If you go to the Sanctuary, you can travel on a funicular. This is quite ecological, the driving force is the water. Nesco loved it!

Ana - When did it open? 

Leonor - It opened on March 25, 1882 and nothing like it was known in the Iberian Peninsula at the time.

Inês - Now let's go to one of the parks to talk about this Sanctuary a bit more. In July 2019, this sanctuary was classified as a World Cultural Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Ana - Why is it a UNESCO site?

Leonor - It is one the most important religious monuments in the north of Portugal.

Inês - Now, we are in the garden, this is one of the wonderful natural parts of our sanctuary. We can enjoy them, but with respect and without spoiling or polluting the spaces.

Here’s the right trip for you! The Casentino forest. Beech forests located between Emilia Romagna and Tuscany!

If you go to the beech forest of Casentino you can walk along the paths of the hills or observe the magnificent waterfalls 

If the weather is good you have to visit the Ridraculi dam and do the boat ride on the lake.

There are many methods, especially ecological, to move around the park. To arrive and visit the lake you can take a boat or canoes. For excursions, you can walk, but children can also ride donkeys or horses. Older children and adults can rent pedal-assisted bicycles (e-bikes).

If after long excursions you're tired, don't worry: inside the park there are many rest areas, equipped with benches, tables and barbecue. These areas must be used with respect, without polluting nature.

If you want to taste typical and delicious foods, you should eat and buy some of the traditional products. These include the Gota (a type of meat), chestnuts, honey and Tuscan Pecorino cheese.

Voilà alors le voyage pour toi! La forêt du Casentino. La forêt de hêtres située entre l’Émilie-Romagne et la Toscane!

Si vous allez à la forêt de hêtres du Casentino, vous pouvez faire un promenade en collines ou observer les magnifiques cascades 

Si le temps est bon, vous devez visiter le barrage de Ridracoli et faire un tour en bateau sur le lac.

Il existe de nombreuses méthodes, surtout écologiques, pour se déplacer dans le parc. Pour arriver et visiter le lac, tu peux prendre un bateau ou des canoës. Pour les excursions, tu peux marcher, mais les enfants peuvent aussi monter des ânes ou des chevaux. Les enfants plus âgés et les adultes peuvent louer des vélos à pédales (vélos électriques).

Si après de longues excursions tu es fatigué, ne t'inquiète pas: à l’intérieur du parc il y a beaucoup de zones de repos, équipées de bancs, tables et barbecue. Ces zones doivent être utilisées avec respect, sans polluer la nature.

Si tu veux goûter des aliments typiques et délicieux, tu devras manger et acheter certains des produits traditionnels, comme le Gota (un type de viande), châtaignes, miel et fromage de Pecorino toscan.

Moranguinho: It was created from a promise made by King D. João I, in gratitude for the victory of the battle of Aljubarrota in 1385, which allowed Portugal’s independence.

Moranguinho: Do you know why we came to this Monastery?

Nesco: No, you just told me that we were coming here to visit a special monument, but you didn’t tell me why.

Moranguinho: We came to this monastery because it was considerated World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1983.

Nesco (euphoric): Finally! We arrived at the Alcobaça Monastery! It’s a great and romantic  place!

Flora (happy but not as much as Nesco):  Hi! calm down! (Laughing). Here you have to be in silence.

Nesco (calming down): You are right, but it is all so pretty, I get emotional and romantic!

Flora (agreeing): It is true! Did you know that the church of this monastery is the biggest gothic church of the Cistercian Order?

Nesco (bored): No… (happy again) But did you know that the construction of the monastery began at the year 1178 and only 100 years after it was done?

Flora: That I did not know…

Nesco (interrupting): Look! (euphoric once again) What is that over there?

Flora: Those are the tombs of the lovers, D. Pedro and D. Inês.

Nesco (asking): Who are they? What is their story? What happened? ...

Flora (interrupting and calming him down): Relax, relax. I will tell you everything.

Nesco: Phew!

Flora: It all started when the infant D. Pedro and D. Inês de Castro, lady of company of D. Pedro’s wife, fell in love. The king, D. Afonso IV, D. Pedro’s father feared that the influence of D. Inês over the prince would put in danger the relationship between Portugal and the Kingdom of Castela, so he decided to expel her from the court. The couple had secret meetings in the garden of Quinta das Lágrimas in Coimbra. In the next year, after the death of D. Pedro’s wife, he sent D. Inês back and decided to live with her, with whom he had 4 kids. The king D. Afonso IV, every time more concerned, command the death of D. Inês. According to the legend, the blood of D. Inês still stains the bottom of the Fonte das Lágrimas, place where she probably was killed.

Nesco (interrupting): Legends, legends! I bet it is just some red seaweed that is on the fountain!

Flora (ignoring and continuing to tell the story): When D. Pedro became the king, he executed the murderers of D. Inês with his bare hands. D. Pedro demanded that D. Inês must be buried by his side, in the church of the Alcobaça monastery! And here they are in the tombs in front of each other, so that they could reunite in the Resurrection Day.

Nesco (crying a lot): Ah! Why is life so unfair?  

Flora (laughing): It’s true but there is nothing you can do…

Nesco : I start . The Laurissilva  forest  is the name  by which the indigenous woodland  forest  is known. 

Ambientalist ( continuing to read ) : The forest is fully included in the area in the Madeira Natural park area and is protected by regional legislation .

Nesco : The laurel forest is included in the area of Madeira’s natural park and is a biogenetic reserve in Europe , Unesco national heritage .

Ambientalist (curious) : Are you listening to this ? It’s a the sound of a trochar pigeon, one of the oldest species of macronesia avifauna. 

Nesco(indicates to the tree) : There is an bis-bis one of the smallest birds of the avifauna of Madeira feeding on insects .

 Ambientalist (Screams out loud ): Let’s follow them .

Nesco : So many centenary trees and so many ferns  that , in addition to being small , draw a lot of attention! 

Ambientalist (angry ) There’s a covid 19 mask on the floor I can’t  believe it ! Who did this ? If I caught him here , I would take him to the forest guard .

 Nesco : Look , there’s  our  electric car , we’ve just finished our visit and I really enjoyed it !

NESCO: In 1995, Sintra Landscape was classified by UNESCO as a natural landscape. The town and northern slope of the Sintra mountain range, with its natural and characteristic features and a remarkable built heritage, have been part of the World Heritage Site. What information do you have?

Flora: Sintra was in the 19th century, the first focus of European Romantic architecture. The importance of the mountain, at the same time, its amenity, makes Sintra a unique place. Ambientalist, what do you know about this vegetation in this parish?

Ambientalist: This landscape has a lot of biodiversity and human action like the Pena Palace and the Royal Palace of Sintra. Thanks to the microclimate of the Serra de Sintra, the vegetation is abundant and includes several animal species, being one of the most beautiful parks in Portugal. 

Nesco: I loved hearing about this amazing place! It’s an amazing place to visit!

Flora: Let's go and discover this beautiful Palace! Where is it located?

Nesco: The national Palace of Mafra also known as Convent de Mafra is located near Lisbon in Portugal. And did you know that the palace  was classified as a National Monument  in 1910 and was also a finalist in the Seven Wonders of Portugal?  On 7 July 2019, the Royal Building of Mafra – Palace, Basílica, Convent, Cerco Garden and Hunting Park (Tapada) was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. 

Flora: Very interesting.  This palace has also a Baroque  and Neoclassical   style of Roman and Germanic influence. The  Construction began in 1717 under King John V of Portugal  and was completely concluded in 1755.

Nesco: I also discovered that the Basilica of Mafra occupies the central part of the building of the Palace of Mafra.

Flora:(talking with enthusiasm) Let's go and  visit the amazing  garden! What do you know about the garden? 

Flora: I know that The Cerco garden  is an illuminated work, maintained with detail for the population and visitors. Water mirrors, wide paths and  leafy trees are some of the attractions of this Versailles-inspired garden.

Nesco:(very happy) We should now  go to the Tapada of Mafra, too. What do you know about it?

Flora: It Created in the reign of D. João V, after the construction of the Convent of Mafra, as a leisure park for the King and his court, the Tapada Nacional de Mafra is a representative forest and natural environment designed next to the main monument of the village.

Flora: (talking loudly) If I were you, I wouldn’t  run here so as not to scare the wild  animals . It’s better to go home by bike now. I’m so  tired.

Ambientalist(looking to Nesco relaxed): Calm down Nesco, you will not be there to have a better future. I’ve read about this place. It was built in 1290, in the kingdom of D. Dinís, who signed in the city of Leiria the document: “Scientae thesaurus mirabílis” creating the build , which was intermediated and confirmed by the Pope.

Nesco (curious): Wow! I didn’t know about that. But….. If it is a University, doesn’t it have colleges?

Ambientalist: Yea, that’s why It has eight colleges.

Nesco (loudly): Eight!? So many? Just imagine the academic grades on it!

Ambientalist: Yes, that eight colleges are divided by multiple academic grades, including: Arquitecture, education, engineering, humanities, maths, natural sciences, medicine, psychology social sciences and sports. 

But let’s stop talking and  start walking.

  (the friends immediately get lost inside the building, but   fortunately, they have a map)

Nesco: Look! A map, we can finally leave this place, let’s go!

 (some time later)

Nesco (removing the camera): Look at these classrooms, they are so big that they can teach up to 200 students at once! 

Ambientalist : I almost forgot it! This place was classified by UNESCO as a world patrimony in 2013!

Nesco (shocked): Oh my God! How could we forgot that. My boss will probably want to talk with me after this, and I think it’s not for a promotion….

Ambientalist: I’m so sorry too Nesco, but don’t worry about it, it will be fine and there’s nothing to worry about… (the bell rings) Oh, that’s  our alarm to go home, I guess! (laughs)

Nesco: Yeah, I shouldn’t worry about It, as you said “It will be fine”.

Ambientalist ( Yelling): Come Nesco or we will lose our bus home.   (they enter in the bus,go home and were happy with the visit)

Nesco: Hello. Flora is an Ambientalist!

Flora and Ambientalist (in chorus): Hello Nesco!!!

Ambientalist: Let's start the visit, I'm super excited!

Nesco: Come on, I'm super excited, too.

Flora: I think we can start here. The  Cathedral of the Most Holy Savior. Did you know that this Cathedral is one of the most important constructions of the 16th century from the year 1534 on this island?

Nesco: How beautiful and so interesting.  I'm going to take my camera and start shooting.

Ambientalist: Nesco do you want us to tell you a little about Angra?

Nesco: Yeah, I'm super curious.

Ambientalist: The city of Angra do Heroísmo stands on Terceira Island (Azores archipelago) in the Atlantic Ocean.

Flora: Angra has Heroísmo in its name and history. It defended itself against pirates, resisted accepting the rule of Filipes, was the scene of liberal struggles, and rose again after a violent earthquake. Angra has been a World Heritage Site since 1983.

Nesco (hungry): I think we could go somewhere for lunch.

Ambientalist: Good idea, I am hungry, too.

Flora: So we enjoy and get to know a little more about Angra's gastronomic culture.

(Flora searches on her cell phone for restaurants in Angra).

Flora: I found a restaurant where the food tastes good. It’s  called Tasca Das Tias.

Nesco: We could go on a sailboat and order the food and eat there.

Ambientalist: I’ll  order and you can walk to the sailboat.

Ambientalist: The food was really good, what did you think? 

Flora: I liked it a lot.

Nesco: I loved this food, I've never eaten anything like that. It was so delicious! Angra has also very beautiful landscapes!

Flora: I agree, but I'm sorry that everything is getting polluted, the beaches and the streets.

Ambientalist: We could try to solve this by running a campaign.

Nesco: Yes from what I know, Angra presents a classic urban organization and categorically cosmopolitan, despite its small dimensions.

Flora: Nesco take out your camera and we'll take a group photo as a souvenir.

Ambientalist: I just remembered one thing, there was the 1980 earthquake that destroyed 80% of this heritage, but the reconstruction work was exemplary and, just three years later, the UNESCO committee recognized the importance of the Angra do 

Heroísmo center for the history of humanity.

Nesco: How interesting. I'm getting tired, I'm going now.

You should pay a visit to this beautiful arena which is located next to Nîmes, not far from the Mediterranean Sea. 
If you go there, you will learn a lot about Roman history, architecture and discover the history of the plague in the city.

If the weather is good, you will be able to see shows, bullfights and theatre performances. It is a great place to explore because it is the one of the oldest monument in France ant it is the hugest Roman arena. 
Nesco is green, so he will enjoy walking or riding an electric bus to visit the city.

 However, if you love good food, you can also eat at a typical restaurant like « L' Escaladou », to eat traditional food like 'la gardianne', 'le riz de Camargue', 'Les tellines', 'la ratatouille', ou 'la soupe de poisson'.

We are sure you will love this city!

If not, you should visit the Mont-Saint-Michel and its bay!

It's a little island in the Northwest of France between Normandy and Brittany. 
First of all, you can visit the abbey. You can have a walk along the sea. 

You can also visit the « monument in memory of sailors lost at sea » and a medieval village. You can also sail. Then, you can do fishing on foot. If you go there, you will also be able to eat mussels, « andouille »and crepes! 
In the Mont-Saint Michel you may ride a bike, walk and visit around by boat.

When Nesco goes to the Mont-Saint-Michel, he loves going to the ecology museum to improve his knowledge. 

So, why not go there?!

It's said the Pont du Gard was built in a single night by the Devil. To cut a long story short, the person who had to build the bridge begged the devil to build it instead of him. In exchange, the Devil said he would steal the spirit of the first person crossing the bridge, so the mason sent a hare instead. Finally, the Devil, angry, threw the hare against the aqueduct and that's why today the legend is called « The legend of the hare ».

The Pont du Gard is next to Nîmes at the Gardon river, you should go there to visit the famous aqueduct. 
If you go there, you will be able to visit the museum about the history of this bridge and you will be able to swim in the river. The curious will discover more about the pont du Gard by following the guided road around the bridge. 
If you wish to taste typical food, like Nesco, you should try the delicious olives. If you want to have a better experience, you should test canoeing to see how tall the bridge is! Eventually, if you are very sporty, you can bike and stroll around the aqueduct too.
