The still inspiring the cinematography is taken from the 1970 classic Valerie and Her Week of Wonders. The opening shot features the daughter on a couch, which I found to be highly similar to the mischievous Valerie, lounging about in a fantasy world induced by her drug condition.  

Genre: I believe the film would be interesting when taking a fantasy-realism approach. Contrast between the fantasy of the drug induced high and the realism of the after effects and family dynamic. I wanted David’s introduction to reflect on his feelings of claustrophobia and fear. He is in a sense being surrounded or ‘eaten’ by the house- focus has been placed on Gothic horror tropes. 

Style will be based upon both gothic and German expressionist horror films.
