Part of the land of Germany was taken out, when other countries formed, after the separation of the Holy Roman Empire. In 1945, after the end of WWII, Germany was separated into West Germany and East Germany, East Germany being ruled by the Soviet Union, and West Germany under the control of France, Great Britain, and the United States. Germany's Berlin Wall was taken down, and the country that we know today was established in 1949.

Germany's boundaries which lie on physical boundaries are circled in yellow. These two boundaries are with the sea, on one side with the Baltic Sea, and on the other side with the North Sea. Germany's only border dispute as of now is circled in red. This dispute is with the Netherlands, over a small part of the water boundary they share. This boundary was brought on when A Dutch company drilled into an area by the boundary, and either side claims the land for itself. This dispute is over more of a frontier than a boundary, and it is not yet resolved.

I believe that Germany's shape is a mix between a compact state and a prorupted state, as the distance from the center seems to be the same till you see the bottom of the country, which sticks out compared to the rest. Germany is not currently facing any problems because of its shape.

Germany has a federal government. They are a Parliamentary Democracy, with a head of state, a Chancellor(who is in charge), and a bi-cameral Parliament.

There are no current or recent tensions within the German government.

There are signs of devolution since the fall of Hitler in 1945, as the country went from being an autocracy to being a Federal, Parliamentary Democracy. There are now several local governments that have a lot of freedom to make rules, and the central government reserves their right to create laws on only a few things, like finance and military decisions.
