Tom proceeded to get violet and punch murtle which definitely threw the tone in a few directions compared to with how it started. Everything was already chaotic but it definitely got a lot more hectic. They tried to keep their cheating side on the downlow because in this time period being divorced was almost a sin. In the story, west egg seems like the more laid back people, and they were all about having a good time. East egg was mainly focused on being formal and looking good at parties.

She hated that Myrtle called and she was probably embarrassed as well. This one phone call during the party caused the suspicion of all the party members to begin as well.
