I've been playing minecraft since grade 1 (I'm not a pro but I love it), and I am more familiar with creative mode than survival mode. Survival is fun when you do it in free time, but for school I think it would be best to use creative mode for 3 reasons.

1: Creative mode has unlimited blocks, making it easy to build whatever you need and want. 
2. Survival mode has monsters (you can change the setting to peaceful). I think you should play survival in free time instead of using it for school, because in survival it is harder to get blocks to build. 
3. Once everything is installed, open Birdbrain first

Then open scratch

You might need to update/download java. Follow the link to download.

Hummingbird blocks are found under “more blocks” in scratch.

If they aren't there, quit everything and open again. Always open birdbrain first. Check that your hummingbird kit is connected via usb to your computer

For example: space bar is for making sounds. If you have your space bar button connected to Makey Makey, you can press space bar without touching your own keyboard.

2. Makey Makey could be use to make music or a beat to use in a song like a 6 keys piano. this could be use in music class.
