Write 100-150 words.

Becoming a pediatric nurse is a choice deeply rooted in my intrinsic desire to work closely with children. Contrary to some who always had a clear path, my academic journey wasn't predetermined. I explored diverse fields like education, psychology, and midwifery, contemplating which aligned with my empathetic nature. Pediatric nursing, however, emerged as the natural choice to assist children during times of pain and illness. Though indecisive by nature, my unwavering certainty has always been my passion for working with children.

After undergoing various entrance exams, an undeniable inner conviction guided me toward pediatric nursing, a decision I don't regret. Knowing that I can aid children in moments of distress fills me with pride, especially as a naturally sensitive person. This journey is transforming me, granting me mastery over my emotions and teaching me life's priorities. Health, I've learned, is paramount. I am proud to be on a path that not only aligns with my long-standing desire but also allows me to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children.

Describe an encounter with a patient.

In the Pediatric Hospital Bambino Gesù in Rome, as a trainee nurse in the nephrology department, I encountered Marco, a 12-year-old boy undergoing treatment for a kidney condition. The atmosphere in the nephrology department was specialized yet maintained a child-friendly environment to ease the experience for young patients. As I approached Marco's room, a mixture of nervousness and eagerness to learn filled me.

Me: "Good morning, Marco! How are you today?”

Marco: smiling weakly said "Hi, I'm trying to be good.”

Me: "I'm new here, Marco, and I want to make sure you feel comfortable. Is there something specific you need or would like?”

Marco: looking a bit shy " I don't know. I just don't want to be here.”

Me: "I understand, Marco. Can I bring you something to make your time here a bit more enjoyable? A game, a book, or something to draw?”

Marco: brightening up a bit " Maybe a book would be nice.”

As I fetched a book for Marco, I aimed to balance my role as a trainee nurse by providing both medical assistance and emotional support, contributing to the overall well-being of the young patient in the nephrology department.

During my first shift as a nurse at Bambino Gesù Hospital in Rome, in the nephrology department, I experienced a whirlwind of emotions. Excitement pulsated through me, coupled with a hint of uncertainty and fear about whether I could measure up to the challenges. However, the anticipation of witnessing real-life application of my studies fueled my enthusiasm. Wearing the nurse's uniform brought me immense joy.

There lingered an apprehension of saying the wrong things, struggling to follow my mentors' instructions, or even breaking down in front of parents and patients, feeling overwhelmed. In just a few minutes, though, I realized that everyone around me was there to support and guide me. Understanding my position as a novice entering the hospital environment, I felt immediately accepted and reassured. This fostering of a positive atmosphere allowed me to embrace the learning process with serenity, confident that I was in a space where I could grow and contribute effectively.
