Investigation of the method.

In this session we read a document concerning the method ─ Approaches and methods in Language Teaching by Richards and Rodgers.

Each one of us had to read a part of it and then we put everything in common to confecctionate a sheet stating all relevant information about the method: approach, design and procedures.

We researched on the method in order to get to know better which kind of activities we could arrange in our lesson.

This session was very helpful to get familiar with the method and understand better its origins, tools and goals.

Planification of the lesson.

Having read through the materials, the team agrees on choosing four out of ten given methods in the document. These are the following:

Repetition. We consider is a nice tool to introduce the method because it is easy to understand.

Completion. Chosen because it may be useful to help students interact and also train memory skills. Also it can be performed using songs which motivates dynamism.

Integration. Develops linguistical abilities at the same time students learn new vocabulary and grammar structures.

Transformation. Another way to perform repetition exercises with an easy variation.

Performance of the lesson.

We presented the method to our colleages and explained how repetition works and aims for. Then we took the content into practice through exercises.

Although the lesson was addressed to B2 level students, we found some difficulties on explaining some concepts in an easy way for them to understand. For instance, the students had some trouble when performing the Integration activities ─some of them could not understand the exercise, some of them could not form new full sentences.

The session went pretty well and we are happy with the results. Some activities were quite dynamic and encouraged students' creativity.

All things considered, this method is very rudimentary and out of date. It can be useful but there are many other methods that can be much more successful... and fun. We can not forget we are teaching teenagers and we need to adapt the contents to their needs and capacities.

Luckily we can count with many more resources nowadays that can accomplish better our students' expectations.
