AP is promoted through our AP Hall of Fame where AP scholar students are recognized. We channel students who are hesitant to take AP but are ready to challenge themselves towards dual credit classes. AP is a much larger program for us because of the strong history, but our Dual Credit classes are growing as well. We have tried to balance by not offering many core dual credit. We offer fine arts, psych/soc, computer, economics, leadership and teacher cadet dual credit. We are looking at expanding next year perhaps in law. I think there is a difference between an English 101/102 student and an AP Lit/Lang student. We want to increase the numbers in both and I don't think the answer is to just take AP students and put them in Dual Credit. Students should be aware of all of the opportunities so that they can pick the best fit for them. I found that AP teachers are very leery of dual credit. They have been the biggest obstacle for dual credit enrollment. Students who have taken both have been proponents of students taking some AP classes prior to taking dual credit.
