Background ayunieh19b1043 https://padlet.com/ayunieh19b1043/impuwlg3b4jf2pyk/wish/2441883092 Tourism is an important platform for women's employment and entrepreneurial opportunities, but tourism employment paints a rather complex picture of women's empowerment and exploitation. Gender inequality is exacerbated by COVID-19, and the adverse effects are felt more by women than by men. At the same time, women in the tourism industry are often concentrated in informal and low-skilled jobs, leaving them in a vulnerable position during the COVID-19 outbreak with less access to social protection. The COVID-19 pandemic has also disproportionately affected women, from job losses to increased violence against women and unpaid care work. Although women are on the front lines of the COVID-19 response as innovators, leaders, and healthcare workers, their contributions remain undervalued and underappreciated. Lastly, countries take cautious steps to reopen tourism and strive to achieve United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 5 which is to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. The meaning of gender inequality in the world of work is that women are not given the rights they deserve, in fact, their rights are lower than men's. This is clearly seen during the outbreak of COVID-19, when women are more affected than men, in fact, women in tourism who work with low skills or informally have less access to social protection and this puts them in a precarious position during the epidemic. Although women are at the forefront of the COVID-19 response as healthcare workers, innovators and leaders, their contributions remain less visible and less appreciated than men's.
