In the text it says, “So, whilst I don’t mean to equate Anne Frank’s experience to what we’ve lived through this year I do think lockdown has been hard. And on some superficial level, Anne Frank was an expert, so I think there’s a lot we can learn from her experience”(3).

I think the main idea of the text is that even though through hardships we think we don’t have anyone but we have ourselves and that’s all we need. We can help ourselves get through this and be strong. “This isn’t the time to become complacent; to sit back and wait for others to solve our problems. A lot has gone wrong—everywhere. Yes, it’s a time to reflect, but it’s also a time to act. It’s an opportunity to make changes and improvements.” (7) “With limited opportunities to socialize, we’ve been forced to spend more time with ourselves; to speak less and think more. This break from normality isn’t necessarily going to hold you back. It’s an opportunity to slow down and think about what you really want. What’s important to you?” (4)

It says in the text "the risk of going outside for her was certainly much greater than it was for you and me during lock-down; the risk of death much more imminent." Her life depended on it, and even though it’s not as harsh as this pandemic we can still learn from her experiences. It makes us alike that.

Her diary which she got for her 13th birthday had let her express her emotions in the book and let her brain flow. "...there were many outlets through whice Anne could express herself. No singing, no dancing, no running, or jump rope. Her diary was the only place where she could materialize her imaginsation." When she and her family were hiding from the Nazis, she expressed her experiences and her thoughts in her diary. We’ve both had a lot of time to think and reflect on her own emotions and thoughts. “Learning to manage their emotions was critical for their coexistence. So, Anne turned to her diary”, implies that Anne being in the annex with others, without being able to express her emotions fully was hard, but she found a way to help herself, which is something I, along with many others are trying to do during this time.
