In theory regional councils could then delve into our ecological data to see whether the physical changes are 'ecologically significant'.          <description><![CDATA[<div>This report is great (lots of technical detail). It shows how satellites can help us understand sediment effects at national, regional and catchment scales. This will be helpful for storytelling and raising awareness of the issue nationally (e.g., leaders of DOC, Mfe), regionally (Councillors and non-science folk, e.g., policy) and locally (iwi and wider community). If we can talk about (or do videos on) a few case study catchments (examples across NZ, so all of NZ realises it's happening in their backyard, i.e., it's not happening "over there") that would be helpful (for showing non-science folk the issue).&nbsp; This will help to get people talking about the sediment issue at all scales, so we can get leadership engaged.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>While this may be a useful tool for certain scenarios and locations, I can't see the general applicability for national reporting or regional reporting. I think there are still too many uncertainties especially in the areas of importance for resource management. Peak sediment inputs from land enter the CMA via storm events which are not likely to be captured with satellite data. Wave resuspension makes this not the best option for some areas. Nearshore areas are largely not covered but most affected by land based activities. Requesting national and regional reporting to change (change in tier 1, NEMS etc) to accommodate for satellite data when it is not universally applicable would not be my highest priority. </div>]]></description>
