A single question was asked: How many hours a day do you study? We chose this question because any student was able to participate. We were very curious to discover the variety of answers. Majority of the freshmen surveyed don’t spend a large amount of time studying. We expected the mean and median to be higher.

Our group decided that an individual frequency distribution was necessary for this question because the data values included 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. Thus, classes or groups weren’t necessary; it would have made information difficult to read and understand. The mean was 2.08. The median and mode was 2. This proves that majority of the students studied two hours a day. The midrange was 2.5, and the range was 5. The standard deviation was rounded to 1.937. 

The histogram and line graph show a visual representation of the values. There are no outliers or gaps in the graphs. There would be a clear peak at the 2-hour mark in the graphs. The pie chart shows the proportions and percentages of the data. All of the graphs are very effective, but we believe the histogram best represents the data. 

The outcome was slightly different that we expected. The amount of time spent on homework a day ranged between zero and five. Forty percent of the students stated that they only studied two hours per day. Only one person said that he or she studied five hours a day. Zero hours and four hours of studying shared the same frequency of four.
