In the 1870's a terrible drought happened in China. This wasn't the first time they have faced a shortage this has happened on multiple occasions. By the time the shortage was over it had claimed almost 10 millions lives. China today is the most populous country with every five out of the world's 6 billion people. China is trying to achieve zero population growth. The number of people who are born is equal to the number of people that die

The main leader of China Mao Zedong he led a revolution that helped bring communist to power. On average women would have four to five children. So Mao decided to make a plan called the great leap forward it was to help China become a modern industry country. One of the goals of the great leap forward was to increase production of steel. Despite the hard work of everyone the great leap did not work as planed.

The more population the more energy needed. Most of the electricity used is to power the power plants that burn coal. China has the second largest consumption of energy in the world. United state is the only one that consumes more. As China's population there energy also needs to grow. In 1993 China began building the world's largest dam. Hydroelectric dams provide many benefits to the countries that build them. These plants can produce more electricity than any other hydroelectric plant. This dam helps reduce floods by holding back extra water that flows downstreem

Promote Economic Growth

A water-purifying system that can filter any type of water into drinkable water. A lightbulb that can last up to 10 years! These are just a few of the inventions that were displayed at China Hi-tech fair. This is just one of the ways China is working to promote economic growth. You read about Mao’s Great Leap Forward. Just as China’s economy began to recover from that experiment. Mao launched a new one. In 1966 he called for a cultural revolution. His hope was to create a new society in China. In this society everyone would follow his ideas and work for the common good. Special economic zones have brought economic growth to China. China's SEZ's have created millions of new jobs. But also some economic zones have created problems. One being the income gap between rich and poor. China’s booming SEZs have created a lot of wealth. But that wealth is not spread evenly over the country.
